Gaga to turn designer
Lady Gaga will launch a fashion line – when she's done promoting new talent.
Lady Gaga's fashion choices may have the critics divided, but would any of them actually want to emulate her look? The popstrel certainly thinks so, having confirmed in an interview with US magazine Flare that she has every intention of launching her own fashion line.
Perhaps proving that she's serious about her commitment to the industry, however, she first intends to use her status to support other emerging talents.
"At some point, I will," she said, when asked about a possible Gaga fashion brand. "Right now, I'm more concerned with using my fame to promote young designers such as Gary Card, an artist who designed a piece I used on stage."
Rather than playing it safe and sticking to established names, Gaga's style undeniably has something of the experimental about it - in terms of both designer and design. She catapulted Manchester School of Art graduate Holly Russell into the spotlight recently when she wore a sheer, floor-length purple gown trimmed with hair, which she had specially commissioned from the young designer.
Gaga has already been invited into the bosom of the fashion community, last night being awarded the Stylemaker Award at the Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards in New York by Marc Jacobs.
"As an artist, she's well-appointed in accessories. Just when you thought you saw everything in originality, there she is again," ACE president Karen Giberson told reporters.
It's this versatility that Gaga believes will stand her in good stead when the time comes to branch out on her own.
"There hasn't been a commercial artist lately that has embodied avant-garde and couture so insistently as myself," she declared to Flare.
Quite. Watch this space.
