Stella McCartney
by Julia Robson
\r\nLet\'s face it, Stella became a fashion star the femtosecond (a million billionth of a second) Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell marched down the catwalk of her college graduation show wearing exclusively Stella creations. Her career revved into hyperdrive when she landed the job of resident designer at Chloe. Here, she re-wrote the script of the French fashion house pulling on her rock\'n\'roll roots and pulling in friends Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Madonna and Scarlett Johannsson to wear the gear. Now backed by the mighty Gucci group, Stella continues to stamp her unique fashion vision - a sort of veggie ‘Va Va Voom\', part earth-mother, part rock chick - on the modern babe. Latest convert to wear Stella\'s floral jumpsuit is ghetto fabulous, Rihanna.
jimmy,choo
Jimmy Choo - Tamara Mellon
I think we can honestly say Jimmy Choo conjures up images of saucy snakeskin vertiginous shoes worn by the likes of Beyoncé Knowles, or the gorgeous, groomed woman behind the brand, Tamara Mellon. Not, the Malaysian cobbler who sold his name (or should that be his ‘sole\'?) back in 1996. Public school educated heiress and society gal Tamara, (who has a personal fortune of £90m), is the face and DNA behind the babe\'s favourite shoe. Photographed from boardroom to private plane to gossip-fuelled lunch always looking perfect, even if we can never be Tamara, we can slip on a pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos and pretend.
Ashley Olsen,Mary-Kate Olsen
The Row
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are fast becoming as famous for their brilliant fashion line, The Row, as their child acting. Whoever would have believed the goody two shoes duo would grow up (well if you call five foot growing?) to become bonafide fashionistas? Tired of being styled to within an inch of their life by Rachel Zoe or whoever, with looks varying from grunge to geek to emo, the doll-like twins who, if a little malnourished, look great in clothes in the same way Japanese girls do (all together now, kawaii), decided to do their own thing. And boy, are we glad. Check out the skinny boyish blazers worn with chiffon dresses, spray-on leather leggings and teensy shorts. Trend alert…
Sienna Miller,twenty8twelve
Twenty8Twelve
Blonde and beautiful, from an exotically bohemian (ie, rich) background, the sisters behind this label are quintessential babes. Having established herself as one of the coolest dressers on the planet, Sienna Miller, then whipped fashion designer big sister Savannah out of the bag. The result? A nifty collaboration, which rather leaves Kate Moss for Topshop in the shade.Twenty8Twelve (which is named after Sienna\'s birth date of 28 December), oozes essential Ladbroke Grove louche styling with punky Dickensian-tailoring... all very of the moment. Of course you have to be a size six like the Millers to wear it but it still works. Kind of.
marchesa,georgina chapman
Marchesa
Former Head & Shoulders model, Georgina Chapman, met glossy blonde, Keren Craig while studying at Chelsea College Of Art And Design. Chapman went on to become a successful costume designer before launching the label, Marchesa, in 2004. In the same year she began rubbing shoulders with Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, who is now her hubby. Marchesa\'s babe-appeal has seen them dressing movie stars and stylish babes who can afford to splash out serious amounts on a special frock. Coleen Rooney splashed out on a £100,000 Marchesa dress for her wedding to Wayne, cementing their A-list appeal.
luella bartley,luella
Luella
This freckly blonde has proved she is so much more than a posh girl from Leamington Spa. Since the launch of her own line in 2000 she has clocked up an impressive track record of memorable collections, all of which strike a chord with babes globally. No one appreciates those references to her pony club past more than her wealthy, young customers, as she well knows. Luella loves irony and nostalgia almost as much as she loves luxury, It-bags or whatever is cool at the time... geek glasses, graffiti, riding boots anyone? Like Stella McCartney, she recently became a babe-with-babies so now likes to spend time at her country pile in Cornwall, or equally New York, London or LA.
vanessa,bruno
Vanessa Bruno
The thinking babe\'s favourite, Bruno, is popular with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman, as well as Bruno\'s crucially chic French compatriates, Vanessa Paradis and Charlotte Gainsbourg, who all wear this ultra-cool Parisian label. Using minimalist colours (navy, caramel, black, white), in fabrics which glide over lady lumps, her designs are empowering without being overtly sexy. The daughter of a Danish supermodel and a father who founded Sixties fashion label, Emmanuelle Khan, VB\'s serious signature pieces include mini skirts, trapeze dresses, asymmetric tops and skinny tailored jackets. Fashion bimbo she ain\'t.
erin,fetherston
Erin Fetherston
Newest babe-on-the-block is 26-year-old Erin Fetherston; a willowy American beauty with a white bleached bob, ivory skin and sapphire blue eyes. The former couture designer launched her first ready to wear line, a range of modern day fairy dresses in spring 2005, at a time when everyone else was doing armour-like suits. In less than three years she has gone from a blip to a megawatt bleep on the babe radar. Now she has a legion of fans who are as excited about dressing in one of her frothy white 1930s inspired gowns as they were candy pink tutus when toddlers. Thanks to Fetherston, happy days are here again. Yessssss!
Milla Jovovich,jovovich hawk
Jovovich-Hawk
Models occasionally make very successful designers, as this label is testimony to. Clever clothes horses learn what sort of clothes make the heart beat faster and recognise how to spot a trend and hype a brand. Model-turned-actress-turned singer, now designer, Milla Jovovich - who made her debut on the Paris catwalk at the age of 14 and subsequently became the face of countless designer campaigns - earned herself a reputation for never putting a foot wrong on the red carpet before launching a range with friend and former model Carmen Hawk. Pre-orders of the eagerly awaited first collection in 2003 saw it sell out before even hitting the rails in LA and Paris.
elle,macpherson
Elle Macpherson Intimates
It makes perfect sense the six-foot Australian superbabe known as The Body (because hers featured in countless lingerie and swimsuit fashion spreads), should create her own line. Goodness knows the former Eleanor Nancy Gow has modelled enough thongs, bras and briefs in a lifetime and knows her gusset from her tit tape, not to mention what looks hot. Part of the allure of Intimates, launched in 2000, has been pretty but functional pieces based on the sort of ‘invisible\' underwear models take on castings and shoots. The other is the hope that if we buy into the brand a little of Elle\'s exceptional 36-25-35 vital statistics might rub off on us. Ladies, we can but try.
