Bodas underwear
The most hidden aspect of your daily attire is also the most important. It\'s what\'s closest to your skin, and it can make all the difference to your shape, so get your underwear right. First off, have your bra fitted by an expert (Rigby & Peller and Debenhams provide an excellent service); it\'s free, and it will change your life, not just your bustline. The point it to minimise unsightly bulges: so, no overspill in the bra cup area; no vpl, obviously. And - we can\'t stress this strongly enough - absolutely no whale tales (you know, the top of a g-string showing over your jeans). Above all, make sure you\'re comfortable: no one wants to look at blubber bulges squeezing over the back of your bra, or, worse, someone pulling out a wayward high-cut knicker from between their posterior cheeks.

If you\'re blessed with an eye-catching cleavage as well as a fabulous pair of pins, we hate you. But even if you are, it\'s still worth thinking that, unless you\'re a 17-year old Lolita, you probably don\'t want to come across as too va va voom. It\'s a bad look at work, obviously, but even out at night, it just looks a bit, well, desperate. So, if you\'re showing off the chest, cover the legs, and vice versa.

Claudia Schiffer
Edith Head, famous Hollywood costume designer of the silver screen, suggested cutting out two eye-holes of a paper bag and placing it over your head, in order to look at your body in a mirror objectively. If that sounds a bit nuts (and it does to us), there are easier ways to work out what suits your figure. If you get comments saying you look great in that skirt, chances are it\'s hitting your leg at just the right point, and cleaving to your hips to perfection. Everyone, from Claudia Schiffer to Lily Allen, has admitted to accentuating their good bits in order to distract from the bad. Just be honest with yourself, and dress accordingly.

Kate Moss
Ok, so you may love Kate Moss\'s rock ‘n\' roll look, but when you try wearing the feathered waistcoat over the floral mini dress with spiky heels, you somehow look so try-hard. Face it, there\'s no point dressing like a party girl if you have a nine to five job and are usually in bed by 11. The trick is to adapt what you like about our dear style leaders wardrobes and adapt them to your own. So, yes to the cropped leather jacket, maybe, but no to the moccasin boots. You\'ll know what suits your personality. Keep the fashion fantasies for fancy dress parties.

Investment pieces. Like opening a savings account, it sounds so grown-up, but, similarly, it\'s pays off in the long run. Shoes and coats are two things it\'s worth spending half a month\'s salary on. Quality pieces don\'t go out of style, and you can wear them for a lifetime (if you do get bored of them, you\'re sure to rediscover them a few seasons hence - see shopping for your wardrobe, below). Trend pieces, on the other hands - think ripped denim, floral romper suits - are best kept to under three digit prices.

So you want to be CEO of your company? You\'d better start dressing for it. Look sharp, feel sharp. It\'s amazing the difference you\'ll notice if, say, you get your suit tailored to fit your figure, or invest in an expensive pair of heels and a handbag. By the same token, you don\'t want your friends and colleagues to think you\'ve developed multi-personality disorder, so make sure you don\'t totally lose sight of the real you.

For a country obsessed with the weather, it\'s amazing how many of us get caught out every day by our unpredictable skies. Check the weather forecast before going out - what\'s that iPhone for! - and dress accordingly. Springtime showers? It\'s a mac and brolly. Cloud with outbursts of sunshine? That\'s a dress with a jacket and pumps. Sorted.

Like your underwear, basics are worth paying attention on. The building blocks of a wardrobe, they\'re the pieces that go under, with and over everything. So, t-shirts in black, white and grey; vests in the same, a black pencil skirt, etc etc. Just make sure the proportions are right for the season - and right for your shape. So, check the neckline falls at the most flattering point, and that the sleeves hit the right part of your wrist; these little things make all the difference.

Every season, it\'s a good thing to delve into your wardrobe and remind yourself what\'s in there. ("Shopping your wardrobe", as Gwyneth Paltrow refers to it.) You can feel good about donating your unwanted pieces to charity, or make a quid or two selling that handbag you never used on eBay, or, you might even find things that you forgot you had that are perfect for now. Put aside a rainy Saturday afternoon to do it, and, voilà, you\'ve been shopping without making a dent in the bank balance.

Balmain
We\'ve been told it a million times: if you\'re comfortable in your clothes, you\'ll look good in ‘em. Like so many clichés, it\'s true. But only partly. You may feel comfortable slobbing around in that misshapen tracksuit, but you sure as hell don\'t look good in it. It\'s more like, find the pieces that make you happy - you know the ones: the dress that prompts that cute guy to give you a second glance, the pumps that make you walk with a spring in your step, hell, even your lucky knickers. Just enjoy yourself; after all, it\'s only fashion.
