Fashion blogs
Okay, so we admit that the recent explosion of weblogs on the internet has resulted in a profusion of badly-written commentaries which wouldn\'t look out of place in the diary of a bored thirteen-year old (with the grammar and spelling to match). But, as with so many things in life, all it takes is a bit of tenacity and - hey presto - a few gems emerge - which is where handbag comes in... We\'ve sorted through the dross to bring you what we consider the 10 best fashion blogs out there. Informative, funny, and often downright rude, they should keep you distracted through your - ahem - coffee break, and beyond

On the Runway
celebrity news,blogging
New York Times
Good for: An unbiased, unpretentious insight into the fashion world.
Need to know: Witty fashion observations from New York Times fashion critic, Cathy Horyn. As well as having an endearingly dry sense of humour, she has no qualms about dishing the dirt on what really goes on behind the scenes, with many of her less-than-favourable reviews resulting in bans from several fashion shows. Her entries always inspire debate from her many readers, some of whom, such as \'Autre\', she has even been known to address personally.
Blog sampler: \'Autre, do you remember when you said, “It\'s just fashion. Is it? Is it really?” I would say, or add: \'It\'s not important but what is?\'

The Daily Telegraph

Hilary Alexander
Good for: Gossip from fashion\'s inside track. There\'s not a fashionista worth their salt who the Telegraph\'s Hilary Alexander doesn\'t know. And if she isn\'t at a fashion party then it ain\'t worth attending.
Need to know: She\'s the Telegraph fashion critic, and she\'s been on the front row of countless catwalk shows over the years. Her blog covers everything fashion-related (with contributions from the rest of her team), from Oscar fashion to what to wear to your office Christmas party.
Blog sampler: \'The invitation was intriguing - and, typically, almost impossible to read unless you stood under a high beam light and tilted it at a precise angle of 23.07 degrees. Maison Martin Margiela sought my presence at the opening of the Collezione Artisanal at the Carla Sozzani Gallery at 10 Corso Como, one of Milan\'s most fashionable addresses.\'

Manolo\'s shoe blog

Manolo shoe blog
Good for: Information about shoes, but also for hilarious and bitchy commentary about anything that catches Manolo\'s enquiring eye.
Need to know: He\'s an anonymous New Yorker, named after the legendary London shoe designer (and Carrie Bradshaw favourite) – Manolo Blahnik. Always begins with, \'Manolo says…\'
Blog sampler: \'All the Manolo can say is, go away, Owen Wilson, and do not return until you are not just lazily playing your own smarmy, solipsistic self. The Manolo has grown weary of you and your schtick\'.

SHOWstudio

Show Studio
Good for: Updates from creative types – photographers, designers, artists – at fashion\'s front line. Also for reports on topics the rest of the English and American fashion media don\'t cover, such as Japan Fashion Week.
Need to know: Launched in 2000 by fashion photographer Nick Knight – who has shot all the Kate Moss covers for Vogue over the last few years (including the April 2007 issue where she is wearing a dress from her Top Shop line).
Blog sampler: \'Black nylon suiting with patent piping around the seams, brown, shiny "thinsulation" fabric puffas and super tight trousers abounded (boy, do they like a contoured crotch in Tokyo, it seems!).\'

Washington Post
Good for: Informed debate on the wider implications of the fashion industry, and practical fashion advice for working women.
Need to know: Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan\'s blogs are well worth perusing, if only for her insightful, often biting commentaries. Winner of the 2006 Pulitzer Prize For Criticism, she\'s particularly hot on current fashion issues including the size 0 debate, and how women of colour are represented in fashion. It\'s not all serious, though; she also has a wicked sense of humour.
Blog sampler: \'As the audience began to arrive, one girl settled into her seat with her blouse open to mid-chest. I could practically see her nipples. A good rule of thumb when dressing in the morning: No visible nipples before, say, 4pm. Just a suggestion.\'

Style Bubble
celebrity news,blogging
Style Bubble
Good for: Information about fashion events in London, and links to fashion websites and alerts for upcoming events.
Need to know: This hugely popular blog is written by fashion obsessive Susie Bubble. Unlike professional bloggers, Susie writes for personal enjoyment; her charmingly infectious blog is the diary of a super-cool, fashion-obsessed girl about town.
Blog sampler: \'I knew it would happen. I knew the day would come. I just know myself too well. As I flicked through those Prada spring/summer 07 pictures, I knew it was only a matter of time... the turban would come and get me.\'

I Am Fashion

I Am Fashion
Good for: Dissecting the celebrity outfits of Sienna, Lindsay, Mary-Kate et al.
Need to know: Name comes from Coco Chanel\'s comment \'I don\'t do fashion, I am fashion\'. The \'I Am Fashion\' blogger comments on the most pressing fashion matters of the day, from the current status of leggings, to style suggestions for different occasions.
Blog sampler: \'Ahh, if only designers sent clothes to us like they do to Sienna!\'.

The Sartorialist
celebrity news,blogging
The Sartorialist
Good for: Attention to detail. Inspiring pics of people who don\'t use a stylist.
Need to know: One of the original fashion bloggers - and voyeur extraordinaire - The Sartorialist is a former boutique owner from New York. His method is simple: he approaches people on the street whose style he admires, snaps them, then posts comments about their outfits online. He\'s linked to
www.style.com and
www.GQ.com, and will be exhibiting a set of his photos in uber-trendy style boutique
Colette in Paris next October.
Blog sampler: \'I could learn a lot from these guys about how to wear a long coat.\'

The Bag Snob
celebrity news,blogging
The Bag Snob
Good for: Straightforward information. If it\'s good, the bag snob will say so, and if not, the bag snob will tell you that, too. As well as handbag giveaways, they also cover fashion and celebrity gossip in general, and invite readers to vote on celebrity photos in their hilarious \'Snob or Slob\' section.
Need to know: Tina and Kelly are The Bag Snob Girls, who present \'a selective editorial on bags\'. They bring you handbag-related news daily, and aren\'t afraid to be very opinionated.
Blog sampler: \'I am super irritated by the latest trend of clear PVC see-thru bags; not only are they ugly and cheap looking, they\'re outrageously expensive.\'

Catwalk Queen

Catwalk Queen
Good for: Fashion conundrum-solving, and general fashion news.
Need to know: \'Your very own personal stylist\', this blog is our favourite from umbrella site Shiny Media (although we also like
www.shoewawa.com and
www.baglady.tv).
Blog sampler: \'Ahh, how refreshing to see that I\'m not the only person who likes to wear her gym clothes with a bit of red lippy and the assistance of a wind machine.\'
