Samantha Cameron (in Christopher Kane), Jonathan Saunders and awards founder Tessa Hartman (in Holly Fulton) at Scottish Fashion Awards 2011.
Samantha Cameron presented Jonathan Saunders with the Scottish Designer Of The Year gong at last nights sixth annual Scottish Fashion Awards, a black tie event held at the Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow. Other nominees in the category included Christopher Kane and Holly Fulton. Hitting the style button in a s/s 2011 neon green knee-length dress by Kane and understated nude peep-toe heels, "thrilled" BFC ambassador Cameron said, "These awards celebrate the very best in Scottish fashion and remind us that Scotland's home to not only inspirational designers but also a very important textile industry."
Hosted by MTVs Laura Whitmore, and attended by luminaries including Lulu, Dame Shirley Bassey (looking resplendent in a tartan fishtail evening dress), Brix Smith Start, blogger Bip Ling and a tasty-looking David Gandy, the nominees and winners read like a whos who of Scottish names to watch. Winners included Tali Lennox, winner of Model Of The Year, Caitlin Jamieson, who was New Face Of The Year and Freya Mavor, named Scottish Fashion Icon. Gorgeous hosiery label Bebaroque (check out their embroidered tights) was awarded Accessory Designer of the Year, Scottish diamond and watch specialist Rox collected Retailer of the Year and fashion photographer Rankin was inducted into the awards' Hall of Fame.
Non-Scot winners were Henry Holland, who scooped International Designer Of The Year for his fun use of Harris tweed in his recent House of Holland collection, and The Daily Telegraphs outgoing fashion director Hilary Alexander, who was recognised as Fashion Ambassador, for her support of Scottish fashion and textiles.
