1. Dirty Sexy Money

TV,dirty sexy money Dirty Sexy Money

By Julia Robson

Have you met our powerful, privileged and absurdly wealthy Darling family yet? This lot are almost as dysfunctional as the Dallas Ewings but live in New York and wear less cringeworthy clothes. In fact, as each episode hones in on a different Darling member you not only glimpse how the other half live but what they wear. The result being Friday evenings have become a veritable fashion fest. It\'s a toss up between Juliet Darling (Samaire Armstrong from The OC) the youngest, blondest, child who is a thoroughly spoiled (bit like Lucy Ewing) and big but skinny sister Karen (Natalie Zea - a Pamela Ewing type) who gets to wear the best rich bitch clothes. Handsome men include Juliet\'s naughty twin brother, Jeremy (Seth Gabel) and Donald Sutherland as Patrick "Tripp" Darling, the big daddy of them all.

2. Gossip Girl

TV,gossip girl Gossip Girl

Aimed at teens, this has become the guilty secret of many a style-hungry fashionista to fill the void left by The OC. The plot revolves around a circle of super-rich, good-looking kids growing up on New York\'s exclusive Upper East Side. Costume designer Eric Daman, a former assistant costume designer/stylist on Sex And The City, based outfits on real-life East Coast socialites such Lydia Hearst-Shaw. So the kids shop in the meatpacking district as well as Madison Avenue. Based on novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, one of the show\'s stars is Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) who plays the daughter of a fashion designer. Her label, Waldorf Designs, is in fact the real life collection of a real life designer called Abigail Lorick. Lorick\'s signature swishy skirts and dolly frocks have become a hot new label as a result of the show. Who ever said the couch potato had no say in fashion?

4. Pushing Daisies

TV,pushing daisies Pushing Daisies

Anna Friel is the latest British export make it big in Hollywood (after Michelle Ryan left Walford for LA to become a Bionic Woman). She plays Charlotte ‘Chuck\' Charles who gets to wear some great mostly red or pink 1950s vibe lace prom gowns. Chuck has been brought back from the dead (having been murdered on a cruise) by Ned, a pie maker and her childhood sweetheart, who has an usual gift with complicated provisos too complicated to go into right now. Shot almost entirely in reds and oranges with virtually no blues, this dark comedy is a visual treat loaded with camp, cute and brightly coloured costumes and is somewhere between Amélie and a Tim Burton film.

Saturdays 9pm on ITV1

3. Sex And The City: The Movie

sex and the city,Film Sex And The City: The Movie

The wait is nearly over for the hugely anticipated film of the cult TV series that changed our lives... well ours anyway. Stylist-to-the-stars, Patricia Field, is back in charge of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda\'s wardrobes and it\'s going to be like old times waiting to see what handbag, shoe, coat, hat, hairstyle, boyfriend (Mr Big?) those saucy New York girls are going to trot out. Hey, so they are a bit older but so are we. The movie trailer suggests we can look forward to the following: puff-ball skirts, white patent stiletto shoots (shoe/boots), leather gloves, wool shrugs, ‘yeti\' bags, fishtail ballgowns, cocktail hats, Panama hat, one maternity and one Vera Wang wedding dress... but we\'re not going to tell you for who. Seriously girls, the clothes look out of this world and the storylines are bang up to date. But we warn you. Bring a box of tissues.

9. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Film, indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Last seen 19 years ago riding into the sunset, Indy\'s back! Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is the film that director Steven Spielberg and producer George "Star Wars" Lucas said would never happen. Best bit, aside from Harrison Ford (now 65 but looking good on it), are the fabulous safari fashions worn by newly bobbed brunette Cate Blanchett as the baddie Russian Agent Spalko. Is it pure coincidence her strapping jodhpurs, riding boots and army-style jacket are so spring/summer 2008? Karen Allen returns as the tomboyish Marion Ravenwood who wears crunchy cotton shirts, waistcoat and wide leg trousers and looks like a Ralph Lauren poster girl. George Lucas didn\'t scrimp on hiring Hollywood\'s finest costume designer Mary Zophres (Catch Me If You Can, Something About Mary, Ghostworld, Fargo), who has done a splendid job.

6. Mamma Mia: The Movie

Film, mamma mia Mamma Mia: The Movie

Filmed entirely on location on the Greek islands of Skiathos and Skopelos, this cheesy movie makes you want to throw your bikini in a suitcase and jet off on a package tour somewhere hot. Loosely based on the fantastically successful Broadway stage show featuring the songs of Abba, the all-star cast includes Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and a singing Meryl Streep. Twenty-three-year-old actress, Amanda Seyfried, looks like a model who got lost while shooting a Chloe campaign dressed in a cosmic fusion of 1978 meets summer of 2008 boho and hippie chic. Apart from the scene when Meryl dons Abba flares and false eyelashes (well, it is for Dancing Queen) it\'s all wafting white cheesecloth bib shirts, shorts, cork sole wedgies, Grecian frocks and cutesy holiday tops with an Abba soundtrack - fabulous!

Out July 18

7. Mad Men

TV,Mad Men Mad Men

If we are to believe John Galliano, this autumn/winter will see a huge 60s revival. Before you invest in any Dior ease yourself into the world of uplift bras, Jackie O style shifts, Peter Pan collar twinsets, brooches and winkle pickers by watching a few episodes of Mad Men created by the genius Sopranos writer Matthew Weiner. This US drama based in the early 60s, focuses on the lives of a group of men and women working within the slick, modern advertising agency, Sterling Cooper, on Madison Avenue. ‘Mad\' refers to the area - Madison Avenue - as well as the mindset of the people working within it. Tip? Ignore the men in suits. Focus on the girls and their pretty, preppy wardrobes.

Sundays 10pm BBC Four; Tuesdays 11.20pm BBC2.

8. Lipstick Jungle

TV,lipstick jungle Lipstick Jungle

This was Sex And The City author Candace Bushnell\'s follow-up novel. It was swiftly turned into a TV series starring Brooke Shields as a movie executive who juggles family with boardroom. It\'s very much fashion for 40-somethings but in a glossy, money no object way. Lindsay Price (brat-star of Beverly Hills 90210) plays Nico Reilly, the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, while Kim Raver is Victory Ford, a fashion designer, possibly based on Donna Karan. Apart from Shields, who has sprouted longer hair extensions than Jordan, we would put money on Victory Ford being our wannabee woman. Her softly tailored pencil skirt, Vivienne Westwood-esque jacket and square toe platforms set the tone for autumn/winter 2008/9. Serious frockwatching.

5. The Edge of Love

Film, the edge of love The Edge of Love

Chuffing heck! Another Keira Knightley chick flick. This time she\'s joined by super fashion sleuth Sienna Miller in a movie about the love triangle between charismatic Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, his free-spirited wife Caitlin and childhood friend Vera Phillips. Despite the fact it\'s set against the bleak backdrop of war there\'s alot of pretty floral frocks, candy colour cable handknit cardis and wellie combos going on. All very Margaret Howell-meets-Camden Passage. Keira\'s mum Sharman Macdonald wrote the screenplay and wanted her daughter to play Caitlin. Keira preferred the more glamorous Vera (she wears suspenders and stockings). Lindsay Lohan was originally cast to play Caitlin but dropped out to go to rehab so Sienna stepped in. For us, the true star of this one is the dark red lipstick worn by Camilla Rutherford and Lisa Stansfield, who also stars.

Out October

10. The Duchess

Film,the duchess The Duchess

Keira Knightley is currently on a roll when it comes to wearing the very best clothes in any film going. In this, the hauntingly beautiful current face of Chanel\'s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance plays the part of Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire, an 18th century aristocrat - and ancestor of Princess Di - who was as famous for her wildly extravagant clothes as her equally (ahem) wild personal life. Mind-boggling costumes make the Atonement green dress look like a sack of rags. Filmed in beautiful dappled sunlight at various stately homes in Bath and the lush green English countryside - well, Twickenham studios actually - this is a sight for sore eyes. Expect to see heaving cleavages, corsets and John Galliano-style crinolines in sugared almond pastel shades hurtling into fashion. We\'re not sure about beauty spots for men though - a bit Blackadder.
