top 10 new faces fashion models for spring summer 2011 Top 10 catwalk models for spring/summer 2010

The spring/summer 2011 catwalks launched an unprecedented number of stellar model careers. Say \"hi\" to Arizona, Tali, Anais, Bambi and Melodie (never mind the faces we are loving the names). All talk was of the \'new girls\' and for good reason. Despite this being the debut season for many, these girls were opening and closing crucial shows (Givenchy, Prada, Calvin Klein, Gucci) and owning the runways like seasoned pros. The men responsible for shaking up the model superleague and unleashing a new generation of teenage models with exceptional bodies, beauty (and bonkers names) were casting directors Russell Marsh and Kannon Rajah, the guys clearly felt change was needed. Guess what? Change is on the way. Historically, it’s always been the standout stars of the runway who nab the biggest and best designer campaigns and these runway rookies look set to be first in line when they are handed out. Here are our top 10 future model stars.

Daphne Groeneveld

Gap teeth are so over. Spring/summer 2011 will be about Brooke Shields bushy brows. No wonder 15-year old \r\nDaphne Groeneveld (pronounced grrrew-ner-veld) is destined to be a huge star by none other than modelista website, models.com (\"she may very well grow up to be a defining girl of her generation.\") The not so little Dutch girl (she\'s a towering 5\'11 and still growing) made her modelling debut at autumn/winter 2010 Prada then walked for Miu Miu. Her haunting beauty made her the star of the Givenchy Haute Couture show in July. Next month, November, she will grace the cover of French Vogue, proving that being a new girl on the catwalk can lead to great things if it means catching the eye of Carine Roitfeld. In less than a year, Daphne has worked with star ranking photographers including Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott who shot her for Vogue Paris and the Miu Miu campaign. Perhaps her greatest scoop of all was opening the Calvin Klein spring/summer 2011 show in New York on an exclusive - in case her star quality was in question. During Milan in September, she walked only for A-listers like Gucci and Prada. Although still at school studying for exams, Daphne, whose star sign is Capricorn, states her interests as listening to Beyoncé, practicing ballet and modern dance, and shopping. Shopping was how she was discovered by a model talent scout! Nice one.

Bambi Northwood-Blyth

Bambi Northwood-Blyth fashion model Bambi Northwood-Blyth

The eyes certainly live up to her name (they are huuuge!) The eyebrows however remind us of a cartoon not about a lovable deer, more the wacky comedian, Groucho Marx? We shall say no more. This gorgeous Australian is the current muse of Love editor Katie Grand who cast her in several shows she was styling, including Topshop Unique, Emanuel Ungaro, and Loewe. Nineteen-year-old Bambi (real name Stephanie) also secured her own gigs walking for Rag & Bone, Jen Kao, Balenciaga and Chanel. Despite her impossibly posh-sounding double-barreled surname (the Northwood-Blyths sound like they might have a country pile like Downton Abbey) don\'t for a second imagine you\'ll find her in twinset and pearls. Her Paris model-off-duty style, well documented by Face Hunter, is more fake fur chubby, second-skin leather trousers and biker boots. She is dating surfer-turned- designer Dan Single, founder of the now-defunct Ksubi, a denim brand most famous for staging a catwalk show where 200 live rats were unleashed onto the runway during Australian Fashion Week. That\'s our Bambi.

Arizona Muse

This 19-year-old from New Mexico opened and closed the Prada show in Milan, the third American to be plucked from obscurity in three seasons by casting model Svengali Russell Marsh. In Paris, Muse strutted her stuff on the catwalks of Dior, Chanel, YSL, Balenciaga, Miu Miu and John Galliano, her catchy surname hinting at what she had become: fashion\'s latest muse. What do we know of this tall, blonde, bushy browed bombshell besides she was discovered in LA and is tipped to be the biggest name in the modelling firmament by spring? Her real name is Zoe Muse, she\'s a mummy to an eighteen-month-old son, Nico, who she took time off from being a clothes hanger to look after. She did have waistlength hair pre-Prada and looked like Mamma Mia star, Amanda Seyfried. Presumably this is why it was hewn off to her current chin-length bob. Already, her model-off-duty style has been likened to a young Jane Birkin. Hollywood casting directors have also caught the scent of a future starlet. Well, she\'s certainly got the name for one.

Maddie Kulicka

Maddie Kulicka fashion model Maddie Kulicka

This cute-as-a-button, green-eyed, freckled 16-year-old was the unassuming stand-out star of many spring/summer 2011 shows including Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip Lim, BCBG, Ralph Lauren in New York, and Jil Sander, Dries Van Noten (which she opened), Christian Dior, Celine, Miu Miu and YSL in Paris. Making it into the latter, which featured only a line-up of very young, fresh-faced girls who were without a doubt the runway stars of the season, was a particular coup for Maddie. She began her career in 2008 after winning a model contest in her home country, Poland. This led to a stint in Barcelona, via Japan, Athens and Taiwan, before finally coming to a stylish resting place in European fashion capital Paris, where she is represented by modelling giant, Elite. Most recently Magdelena (she\'s also known in fashion circles as Magda K), who is 178 cm and was also the breakout star at the Paris July Haute Couture shows, has recently been working with model star-makers, Mert and Marcus, and Mario Sorrenti. Along with the rest of the French capital they are going mad for Maddie. We can see why.

Caroline Brasch Nielson

Caroline Brasch Nielson fashion model Caroline Brasch Nielson

Having already walked for most big name shows during her debut breakout season in March 2010 (her shows included Balenciaga, Viktor & Rolf, Dries Van Noten, Celine, Givenchy, Chanel, YSL and Louis Vuitton), this 16-year-old Danish rookie with endless legs and flowing brunette locks, had a head start on her fellow teens. Currently starring in the Balenciaga campaign shot by Steven Meisel (she is rumoured to be his new muse), Caroline\'s outstanding first season led to endless editorials in British, Italian, Russian and French Vogue, and Dazed & Confused. Having Meisel (who recently shot the great Dane again for Vogue Italia) on callback has helped – six months on, she was back at the shows, bigger than ever. In New York, where she opened and closed Herve Leger and Narciso Rodriguez, Caroline became \'the face to watch\' according to The New York Times. She also swept the board in Milan (Dolce Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni, Bottega Venetta, Pucci, Gucci etc., etc.) and in Paris, along with walking for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and YSL, she opened Valentino. Brasch Nielsen, whose star sign is Gemini, is determined not to let it go to her head. She returns home frequently to the farm where she grew up, near Kvistgaard in Copenhagan, and her hobbies include riding her horse, Pia, and playing with her cats Pytte and Findus.

Stephanie Rad

stephanie rad fashion catwalk model Stephanie Rad

Statuesque (5\'11), blonde and a Brit, Steph is still studying full-time so is forced to juggle lessons with doing high-profile catwalk exclusives for the likes of Prada and Givenchy. British Vogue recently picked Rad as the breakout girl of 2010. Following on from her first job, shooting the Cos campaign with Josh Olins styled by Joe Mckenna, she went on to star in editorials including Wonderland and 10 magazines. \r\n\"It’s an exciting time in fashion,\" a spokesperson from Stephanie\'s London agency, Storm, told handbag.com exclusively. \"There are alot of interesting new faces making their breakthrough. These new girls are smart and focused and they have other talents. They are all individually strong, and yet they all stand out in a crowd, which is important. It\'s no longer about just one girl, it\'s about a new generation of breakthrough names.\" Many, like Stephanie, who is still only 15, (she was discovered in a branch of French Connection aged 13) are proving age before beauty. Steph\'s favourite things include the usual teenage loves: Robert Pattinson (\"I LOVE him\"), Kings of Leon and her sister\'s clothes. Nothing teenage about her bank account I\'d wager?\r\n

Melodie Monrose

fashion model melodie monrose Melodie Monrose

The name might have sprung straight out of a Judith Krantz novel. But wait until you hear the story. Outstandingly beautiful 18-year-old Melodie (who could have stepped out of a Paul Gauguin artwork) was discovered in her native Martinique, a matter of weeks before castings began for the spring/summer 2011 season. One of her first shows was Marc Jacobs, where she got to wear one of - if not the most - memorable outfits of the entire spring/summer 2011 season (wide-brimmed yellow hat, orange jersey playsuit, giant gold wedges). In Milan, she wowed the fashion crowd at Gucci, Missoni and Prada. In Paris she did the same at Dries Van Noten, YSL, Giambattista Valli, Miu Miu and Valentino. Now signed to leading Manhattan agency, Wilhelmina\'s, and based in New York, she has a queue of photographers lining up to snap her and Anna Wintour is said to be desperate to get her into US Vogue. Aptly her favourite song is Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys: \"Everything in this song is true. New York is the place where dreams come true.\" However, Melodies\' ultimate dream is to move to Paris and become a fashion designer just like her hero, Karl Lagerfeld. \"Maybe someday after modelling, who knows?\"

Tali Lennox

tali lennox fashion model Tali Lennox

It was a case of \'who\'s that girl\' during the starry Burberry Prorsum show in London as this leggy brunette in superheels strode the runway to the strains of her mother\'s distinctive voice. Tali Lennox, the 17-year-old daughter of ‘80s singer-songwriter, Annie Lennox, formerly of the band, Eurythmics, finally shook off the celeb offspring tag and proved her model credentials. Having already shown us how to wear neon lace at Christopher Kane\'s show (with an Argyle twinset, fyi), plus a few other cool London shows, she jetted off to Milan to walk for Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni and Versus. In Paris she walked for Miu Miu and Kenzo. Tali is another of Russell Marsh\'s favourite girls, a coup which could see her career continue to prosper. Her particular strong yet sensual \'look\' along with her ability to stand out from the pack even when wearing no make-up, will hold her in good stead for the next season (she\'s also got the vital \'brows\' that count). We don’t doubt she’ll be adding many more campaigns to those she already holds, including Topshop, by the time she turns 18.

Hailey Clauson

hailey clauson fashion model Hailey Clauson

Perfect pout (tick), bushy brows (tick), teenager who is taking on the superleague (tick). The 15-year-old from California made her catwalk debut in New York walking for Calvin Klein booked on an exclusive. She then went on to effortlessly nail the international catwalks - as Cheryl Cole might say - walking for key shows in Milan and Paris including Versace, Gucci, Miu Miu, Christian Dior, Lanvin and Louis Vuitton. Clauson joins a line-up of fresh, doll-faced girls with unfeasibly plump and quivering lips who seem to have them puckered in a protruding, pout 24/7. (Others include Lindsey Wixson, Daphne Groeneveld, Anais Pouliot, and of course the gap-toothed pout posse of Lara Stone, Georgia May Jagger and Ashley Smith.) Clausen, who is represented by Ford Models in New York, was discovered in her native California aged 14. She is currently starring in a campaign for US denim brand, Jag jeans. Her most famous asset however remains those lips, which even make Angelina Jolie\'s pale into insignificance.

Julija Steponaviciute

Julija Steponaviciute fashion model Julija Steponaviciute

Also known as Julija Step for obvious reasons, despite being just 16, this model racked up an astonishing 100 shows during the spring/summer 2011 season. Despite this only being her third international show season she is considered an essential member of the A-list runway dream team, alongside queens of the catwalk Anja Rubik, Freja Beha Erichsen, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Kasia Struss and Kendra Spears, the type of girls no designer would dare staging a show without. Who did she walk for? Who didn\'t she? Certainly all the coolest catwalks like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, Topshop Unique, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Givenchy, Celine and YSL. Originally hailing from Lithuania, following her catwalk triumph, Julija\'s \'Virgin Suicides\'-type long hair and startlingly innocent face has had a similar extraordinary impact editorially and globally (even before the 1970s-inspired trends kick in). Recent shoots include working with Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue and Craig McDean for Interview. She currently stars in the Balenciaga campaigns and was chosen to be the face of the prestigious Prada lookbook.
