Gimme the facts...

How long have we got? Marc Jacobs (see left) has been a prominent fixture on the design scene since he launched his own label in 1986, but he didn\'t stop there and has since bought us Marc by Marc Jacobs, a more youthful (and cheaper) take on his main line, Marc Jacobs menswear, Little Marc Jacobs for kids and a perfume range. Somewhere he also finds the time to be creative director for Louis Vuitton - and has done so since 1997. Phew, we\'re worn out just thinking about it.

What\'s all the fuss about?

Marc Jacobs is perhaps the most influential designer of his generation. 

He famously brought grunge to high fashion in the \'90s which was the perfect antidote to the licra leggings and power suits of the \'80s. His aesthetic was a thousand times more wearable and, not to mention, cool. 

He was rewarded with the title of Women\'s Designer Of The Year by the CFDA in 1992 (he\'d already won their New Fashion Talent award in 1987, which made him the youngest designer ever to be presented with the accolade).

Jacobs\' advertising campaigns are renowned.  Shot by fashion photographer Juergen Teller, they have a distinct look that is now impossible to mistake for anything other than a Marc Jacobs advertisement.  His campaigns are famous for featuring unexpected and sometimes controversial figures from the public eye.  Memorably, Victoria Beckham was pictured for the spring/summer 08 campaign with her legs-a-kimbo inside a Marc Jacobs shopping bag!

Who wears it?

Somewhat of a celebrity himself, Jacobs is never far from the party scene which means his inner circle are often in on the fame game. Being close friends with everyone from Madonna to Victoria Beckham to Sofia Coppola and Chloe Sevigny means his front row is never empty of a stylish starlet draped head-to-toe in his latest creation.
