London Report 18/09/06

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,richard nicoll Richard Nicoll catwalk Prior to his show Richard Nicholl stated that his spring collection was designed for \'a modern girl with a strong sense of herself\'. It was hard to imagine, however, just what kind of a woman would want to wear polka-dot pleated clown-style trousers with a matching dot blouse. There were some fantastic pieces: cool short shorts and the shirts that he always does so well, now coveted by celebs like Kylie Minogue

London Report 19/09/06: Gharani Strok

Lily Cole, fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,gharani strok Gharani Strok catwalk Summer was in full swing at Gharani Strok, as mint green, cotton mini-kaftan dresses, multi-coloured bandeau swimsuits and white, empire-line soft bubble dresses didn\'t disappoint the celebrity fans, like Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Elen Rivas and Louise Redknapp, who had turned out to watch the show

London Report 18/09/06: Gardem

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,gardem Gardem catwalk At Gardem, distressed layers of lace, satin, leather and muslin came in virginal white, gothic black or tones of flesh and nude. Signature soft leather jackets were closely fitted and a beautiful mushroom nappa leather skirt was softly rounded with pleats and drapes. There were some beautiful and whimsical touches in the raw edges, jewelled collars and romantic layers, but at times it felt like an early \'80s Madonna moment that had gone a touch too far

London Report 18/09/06: Noir

Lily Cole, fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,noir Noir catwalk If we asked you to picture an eco-friendly collection designed only with fabrics from fairtrade African countries and organic cotton, we doubt you\'d imagine the feminine-with-a-touch-of-fetish collection played out on the catwalk at Danish label Noir. White shiny biker jackets and crisp white ruffle-front blouses were all worn atop super-skinny latex leggings. The waist was emphasised with rigid wide patent cummerbunds, and softer touches came from silk kimono-style tops or white cotton dirndl skirts

London report 19/09/06: Paul Smith

Paul Smith, fashion week, preppy,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk Paul Smith catwalk At Paul Smith the \'men only\' theme that proved so succesful last season continued. Mannish navy blazers worn with tiny cotton hot pants, classic white shirts and sporty khaki yacht shorts all had an American preppy feel that many London designers are taken with this season. Dresses came in airy cotton or draped silk and cute playsuits were in panelled navy, white and yellow silk or lipstick red satin

London Report 19/09/06: Preen

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk,preen Preen catwalk At Preen Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton revisited the \'80s & \'90s for their spring collection which was one of the strongest shows of the week so far. Acid yellow, white and nude short modernist sheath dresses in thick bandage like lycra had a hint of Mugler about them and hips were seamed and moulded to stick out like panniers. The super body conscious \'90s theme has been the strongest story in London this week so far

London Report 19/09/06: Emma Cook

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,emma cook Emma Cook Draped and printed dresses, with suede and leather trims have become Emma Cook\'s trademark, but for spring she seemed to move into new terrirtory that proved less succesful for such a talented young designer. Draped dresses when they appeared were beautiful and slubby linen mini tulip dresses and smocks were sweet, but the beaded patchwork and brocade fabrics looked heavy and lacked the delicate feminine touch we normally see at Emma Cook

London Report 19/09/06

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,gareth pugh Gareth Pugh catwalk Sci - fi meets fetish meets fashion at Gareth Pugh as models in latex masks and inflatable outfits paraded in enourmous lucite heels at his spring summer show. Pugh\'s background is in costume design and this is something he obviously has an extreme talent for but as rumours flew yesterday that he may receive backing from Rick Owens in the near future we wonder if it\'s possible that next season we may see a couple of outfits that women can actually wear?

London Report 19/09/06: Biba

Hugh Grant, fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,biba Biba catwalk The celebs had turned out in force (Hugh Grant, Jemima Khan, Anita Pallinberg, Phoebe Philo etc) to support friend Bella Freud at one of the weeks most anticipated shows: Biba. But sadly the bum fight at the door and the excitement on the front row turned out to be the main event as the show was in a word - disappointing. Freud had plundered the archives but had failed to put her own slant on the collection to bring it into 2006...

London Report 19/09/06: Biba

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,biba Models in Biba Edwardian coats, covered buttons, bell sleeves and maxi dresses all made an appearance and stayed true to the origional brand. But copying old designs, origionally created to bring fast disposable fashion to young women on a budget, so faithfully is surely foolish when the re-launch is aimed at designer level?

London Report 20/09/06

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk,christopher kane Christorher Kane catwalk Christopher Kane\'s debut collection was one of the most anticipated shows this week and from the very first outfit, a flouro orange mini dress, it was clear this collection would be everything the press had hoped it would be. Colour\'s like acid yellow and electric blue radiated positive energy and the super short, body conscious dresses were the best example yet of the revival of 90s designers like Leger and Alaia that we have seen everywhere in London this week

London Report 20/09/06: Clare Tough

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk,clare tough Clare Tough catwalk Knitwear designer and newcomer Clare Tough showed a simple but strong collection at the tents yesterday. Miniscule knit string bikini\'s and body concious vest dresses came in natural colours with raw edges and the linen pleat front trousers and appliqued leather flowers all added to the organic unfinished feel. Tough showed she can mix craft with a commercial sensibility in her slouchy wide striped cotton knit cardigan coats and black loose fit shirt dresses

London Report 20/09/06: Acquascutum

Aquascutum, fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk Acquascutum catwalk New takes on the classic Acquascutum raincoat included jewell encrusted collars, pleats, pin tucks and smocking. Metallics made an appearance on simple pants and tanks but for the most part it was a simple, pared down and safe collection from Acquascutum\'s new designers, Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler

London Report 21/09/06: Giles

Giles Deacon, fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk Giles Deacon catwalk On Wednesday London\'s fashion favourite Giles Deacon lived up to all expectations to deliver a collection that has already been touted as his best to date. Giles is a designer who has gone from strength to strength to firmly establish himself as London\'s No 1 talent. For s/s there was a 60\'s theme spliced with fetish, short trapeze dresses had patent trims, chains and whips were printed onto long gowns and shoes and bags were covered with giant studs

London Report 21/09/06: Armani

Leonardo DiCaprio,Beyonce, fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk Emporio Armani catwalk The Emporio Armani collection was never going to be about the clothes but more about the cause and last night saw stars like Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Leonardo Di Caprio fly into London, all for the RED initiative - the global fund set up to help fight AIDS, TB and Malaria in the third world...

London Report 21/09/06: Armani

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk Emporio Armani catwalk On the catwalk there was mini taffeta dresses, tailored shorts and shrunken jackets all in black, grey, red and white and off the catwalk 1300 guests partied into the night... see all the celebs at Armani in our stars at the shows gallery

London Report 22/09/06: Erdem

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk,erdem moralioglu Erdem catwalk Regardless of the body conscious \'80s theme that so many designers are infatuated by for spring, Erdem Moralioglu stuck to all the things he does best to produce a romantic collection that featured delicate lace, embroideries, feather prints, pleats and beautiful long chiffon dresses. For spring he added sporty details like bold stripes and raincoats for a look that was in his own words "easy american sportswear combined with something decadent"

London Report 22/09/06: PPQ

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk,ppq PPQ catwalk At PPQ their usual take on rock \'n\' roll resort wear saw slouchy striped linen, skinny white jeans and shift dresses for summer, all styled with chic black mini matador hats. Towards the end turquoise taffetta prom dresses and striped lurex knit dresses added some summer sparkle to an otherwise neutral and monochrome palette

London Report 22/09/06

fashion week,Autumn Winter 2006,catwalk Julian Macdonald catwalk At Julian Macdonald some things never change - the celebrities on the front row, the bum fight on the door and a whole heap of sparkly, papparazi friendly dresses on the catwalk. For spring, Macdonald had fully embraced the disco fabulous \'70s (perhaps this is to do with stylist Rachel Zoe\'s \'70s boho deluxe influence?)in silk purple printed blouses, purple satin cigarette leg trousers and his usual finale of long sparkly and satin gowns, this time in white and gold

London Fashion Week Report by Melissa Dick

Kate Moss,Topshop, fashion week Kate Moss It was an incredible week at LFW with stand out shows from Giles, Christopher Kane and Marios Schwab confirming that London is back on the map as a fashion force to be reckoned with. Most designers in London agree that it\'s all about the \'90s, paying homage to fashion greats Alaia and Versace and in addition Armani\'s RED initiative saw stars like Beyonce and 50 cent flying in to create a buzz for LFW that has not been felt for years.
