Fashion is confusing at the best of times. Learning the names of creative directors behind big brands from Chanel to Gucci, makes you realise it's a fast-moving game of musical chairs. And always has been. Turns out the men who founded luxury labels like Pierre Balmain and Hubert de Givenchy, also worked for couturiers before establishing their eponymous ateliers. In light of the gaping hole left by exiting John Galliano at Christian Dior, and the exciting revelation that Sarah Burton, chief designer at Alexander McQueen, could be making Kate Middleton's wedding dress, we scrutinise who is designing where on Planet Fashion.
