The Antique Clothing Shop
282 Portobello Road, London, W10

Fri - Sat, 9am - 6pm

Shop owner Sandy Stagg has been buying and selling vintage clothing since the 70s, and she\'s been selling from her Portobello Road shop, which sells both men and women\'s vintage clothing, since 1992.  Her biggest coup was finding a Madeleine Vionnet couture gown in Toronto, which had been featured in American Harper\'s Bazaar. She bought it for $60, and then sold it at auction, left, for a whopping $10,000.

Open on the same days as Portobello Market, the shop sells pieces ranging from the Edwardian era through to the 1970s. It also has a little-known vintage wedding-gown shop downstairs.

Tues - Sat 10.30am-5pm

Situated in a nook off of the main shopping street in Bath town centre, shop owner Teresa Langton\'s Vintage to Vogue is a snooper\'s paradise.  Stuck in a time warp - in the kindest sense - the specialist pieces come mainly from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, but some items date back as far back as 1850.  Visitors are varied, from students looking for a unique prom dress to collectors of antique lace and fabrics.   JT
Note: We were unable to get a picture of Vintage to Vogue, so the photo, left, is an interior shot of Annie\'s (see previous frame).

For the past twelve years, Jeff Ihenacho has been buying and selling vintage clothing and accessories, ranging from the Victorian era to the 1980s (the latter being his speciality).  He attends private auctions across the globe for his finds, citing Brazil as a favorite (\'you\'d be surprised at the amount of stuff you can find in Rio\'). His eclectic finds, teamed with the cute location bang in the centre of Portobello Road, has found him fans ranging from Kate Moss and Sienna Miller (who is particularly keen on 60s pieces) to Yoko Ono.

Annie Moss has been trading in vintage clothes and textiles for nigh on 30  years. She\'s been running her shop, Annie\'s, for the past seven, in the heart of Islington\'s network of antique-laden alleyways. She stocks pieces ranging from the Victorian era through to the 1960s, and so it\'s no surprise that Alexander McQueen is a fan. Kate Moss is another good customer: on a recent visit, among other things, she purchased a long blouse dating back to 1912; a snakeskin clutch; a 1920s sequinned jacket and a chainmail dress.
