Sarah Clark's spring shopping list

Trade Secrets

Sarah Clark has worked as a magazine fashion stylist for 11 years, starting out at Marie Claire before moving to Glamour. She is an expert at mixing highstreet with high fashion and has styled many a Hollywood A-lister and up-coming starlet. She knows what a girl needs to get her through this season...

Name: Sarah Clark

Job: Stylist

Ultimate style icon: Jane Birkin.

Favourite high street shop: I know it's an obvious one, but it's got to be Top Shop. Gap would come a close second though. I always buy tons of things in Gap.

Favourite designer shop: That would have to be a toss up between Luella and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Your favourite ever purchase: That's a tough one. Probably an original Rolling Stones tour t-shirt from the early eighties that I've literally worn to death. It stunk of moth balls for months (even after multiple washes) but I wore it anyway because I loved it so much. It's been copied so much but I love that mine's an original.

Favourite city for shopping: London. We definitely have the best high street shops in the world.

Any tips?: Always try to say true to your own style. Don't follow the trends slavishly. If you see something that you love, just buy it! Don't get caught up in 'but is it cool/trendy/fashionable?' And don't go down the 'but it looks great on Kate' route either.

Favourite person you've ever styled?: Patsy Kensit. She was so lovely.

Anyone you'd ever love to style?: That's a hard one too. Hilary Clinton!

1. Cardigan, £245 at PPQ.  I like the way it's ladylike and cool at the same time. Great over little dresses or with jeans and flats. A good alternative to my leather biker jacket I've been living in all Winter.

2. Suede fringed gladiator flat sandals with double buckle, £35 at ASOS.  Comfortable and cool. Will look great with cropped jeans or a dress. And a bargain too!

3. Oversized indigo denim 'Bayswater' bag, £495 at Mulberry.  Perfect for romantic mini-breaks.

4. Floral print dress, at Luella.  Such a cute dress that I will wear loads. I've had my eye on it since the show last season.

5. Black tuxedo jacket (with rolled up sleeves), £55 at Top Shop.  I wear loads of dresses, and a boyish jacket or blazer is a great way of adding a tomboy element so you don't feel too girly.
