Christopher Bailey awarded MBE
Christopher Bailey, creative director of British fashion label Burberry, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours
The Yorkshire-born designer was awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, to call it by its proper name, in this weekend's list of honours for services to the fashion industry.
Bailey took over as creative director of Burberry in 2001 and has successfully managed the brand's image to stay true to its English heritage roots, such as casting quintessentially British stars in its ad campaigns, while also making it achingly cool by designing collections with a contemporary and hip aesthetic. He has also overseen the building of the plush new Burberry headquarters on London's Horseferry Road and the company's New York base, which was opened last month. New York's mayor Michael Bloomberg also declared 28 May Burberry Day.
Other notable awardees in the Queen's Birthday Honours from the fashion world include Natalie Massenet, founder of online designer clothes boutique net-a-porter, who is made an MBE, and designer Jeff Banks who is made a CBE.
Congratulations to you all!
