Fashion news 1 May 2008
Inspired by Ralph Lauren's 1994 worldwide initiative in which he sold t-shirts featuring his iconic polo player logo to raise money for breast cancer, FashionTargets Breast Cancer has channelled some of the UK's prettiest and most recognisable faces to front their new advertising campaign. Rankin, known for co-founding Dazed And Confused magazine with Jefferson Hack, has photographed Anna Friel (currently starring in ITV's Pushing Daisies), Natalie Imbruglia and Edith Bowman, among others, to raise awareness and money from t-shirt sales. Each of the pictures, which will run from 6 May, carries the slogan, ‘Whatever your reason, wear one.' In a statement about the tees, which feature a bullseye target on the front, Friel said, "Why am I wearing this t-shirt? To be straight, for me, it's more about the charity than the t-shirt. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love the design and the colours, but the main pull for me is what it does. Through sales of this simple t-shirt Breakthrough is able to fund vital research, campaigning and education work which needs to continue to fight breast cancer." The collection this year has grown to include high summer fashion items including swimwear, lingerie, accessories from Marks & Spencer, a limited edition shopper bag by Topshop and and more.
