Britney Spears wears Dsquared² on new tour

Irreverent designers Dsquared² have designed the wardrobe for Britney Spears’ new tour, with a novel take on the Circus theme.

Known for their eye-popping runway spectacles, designers Dsquared² are now turning to showbiz proper, designing the wardrobe for Britney Spears' upcoming tour. The Canadian identical twins, who yesterday showed their autumn/winter 2009 collection in Milan, will create looks for Britney and her dancers for the first segment of The Circus Tour, the trouble-struck star's first tour in five years.

But don't expect any cutesy trapeze artist dresses for Ms Spears. In line with their irreverent take on fashion (models at yesterday's show walked down the runway carrying Starbucks lattes), the pair have said they will not be sticking to a traditional circus theme for the project, but rather "something much more provoking and indecent... something animalistic and primal". One of the sketches (pictured) shows her in a military style jacket with fishnets and lace-up heeled boots, with a headpiece featuring a tiger's head and feathers attached to it. More reminiscent of Madonna's sexy dominatrix than of Britney's Lolita hook, the costume is perhaps an indication that she is keen to move towards a more grown-up style.

The Circus Starring Britney Spears kicks off today in New Orleans.
