Louboutin and Lanvin go XXS
The legendary designers go teeny tiny and create looks for dolls. By Fiona Raisbeck
Every fashion worshipping girl would love a pair of Louboutins for her birthday, and Barbie is no exception. To celebrate the iconic doll's 50th birthday (she doesn't look a day over 25 if you ask us!) shoe designer Christian Louboutin will create a pair of pumps in Barbie Pantone 219 pink, to be debuted during New York Fashion Week in February as part of a Barbie-inspired catwalk show. "I guess I always had a little ‘girlie' side who liked Barbie," the legendary French cobbler said. "Barbie needs to wear great shoes because every girl needs to wear great shoes."
Not to be outdone, Lanvin's creative director Alber Elbaz is once more following in the seriously stylish footsteps of Jeanne Lanvin, founder of the French fashion house, by creating a series of hand painted china dolls dressed in outfits from the label's spring/summer 2009 collection. For his second range of Lanvin dolls, Elbaz has created seven limited edition designs, including one wearing an electric blue mini dress and walking her dogs, and another in her wedding dress - an homage to Jeanne, who started out in children's fashion and also took part in the ‘Theatre a la Mode' show where couturiers used to unveil their designs on porcelain figurines. Who said that we're too old for dolls?
