Sofia Coppola’s resume could read something like this: mother, Oscar-winning director, daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, ex-Chanel intern, one time designer (her label, Milk Fed, was only available in Japan thereby immediately gaining cult status), muse to Marc Jacobs, designer of limited edition Louis Vuitton handbags, keen collector of photography and style icon.

Phew! That was a mouthful. Now, we have never doubted her place in the our sartorial hall of fame, however her recent outings to promote her latest film, Somewhere, is further proof that the queen of understated elegance thoroughly deserves her spot on the numerous Best Dressed List she has been featured on.

So why do we love her style? It could be because she is ‘oh so French’ in a laid-back Californian way - the very antithesis to ‘try hard’. The New York Times summed it up perfectly when they labelled her fashion sensibilities as “discreet, chic and grown up”. We couldn’t agree more.
