Philip Treacy and Daphne Guiness.
This just in! The Accessories Council has named British hat-extraordinaire Philip Treacy their Designer of the Year. The 44-year-old designer is following in the footsteps of Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs. He made his name creating outlandish hats for fashion designers including Alexander McQueen, and is also the go-to hat designer for the Royal Family.
In fact, 36 of the hats worn at the Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William were designed by the milliner, including Princess Beatrices infamous pretzel hat, which garnered mass media attention. The Princess showed her continuing support for the designer, as did her sister Eugenie, when they again wore his designs for Zara Phillips and Mike Tindalls wedding .
Fellow Treacy fans include the always-outlandish Lady Gaga, as well as more refined fashion icon Victoria Beckham.
The Awards acknowledge the achievements of accessories designers who are helping to raise the profile of accessories in the fashion industry. Congrats!
