Rumours of a Chanel and vintage wedding dress whirled, but in the end Lily Allen surprised us with her choice of Parisian designer Delphine Manivet, and a pregnancy announcement, for her wedding to Sam Cooper on Saturday.
Looking demure in her full-length lace and silk tulle dress and 1920s-style veils by Manivet, the Smile singer boasted a small bump as she arrived at St James the Great Church, Cranham, Gloucestershire. Her new husband confirmed that she is 12 weeks pregnant at the small reception afterwards, which was attended by less than 100 friends and family. Congratulations Lily and Sam!
Á la Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, the empire line dress had a sweetheart neckline overlaid with a lace bodice that covered her arms and decolletage. The full-length dress, made of a layer of silk tulle and Calais lace, dropped from under the bust, gently skimming her growing bump and featuring a kickflare from the knee. While the dress was, according to reports, inspired by the 1970s and 1990s, the cathedral length veil was very much a look from the 1920s, covering Allen's hair and featuring two rose-like gathers at the side of the head. The look was completed with a pair of gorgeous but quirky ivory-satin peep-toe platforms.
Talking to the Mirror about designing the dress for Allen, who after all has her own clothing line Lucy In Disguise, Mme Manivet said, "Lily is a girl who is quite rock and roll, but her wedding she wanted to be traditional. She really believed in me and trusted me completely. She is a girl like me, and we understand each other very easily. She was in love with the dress, and she loves vintage.”
