One’s the fiancée of Prince William, a princess in the making and a future Queen of England, the other’s a pop star princess and the reigning queen of reality TV as a judge on the X Factor. Together, Kate Middleton and Cheryl Cole are two of the most photographed women in the country, if not the world, revered for their down to earth warmth, beauty, and - albeit very different - sense of style.
We applauded Geordie Cheryl earlier in the year for finally dumping her love rat hubby Ashley, bravely battling malaria and triumphing as a chart-topping solo artist. But after rumblings with Wagner on this week’s X Factor and Gamu-gate (when Cheryl axed the Zimbabwean wannabe in favour of flaky Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd), the return of the dodgy cherry red hair extensions and some questionable fashion choices, is Cheryl’s crown slipping? And fresh from her engagement announcement is Kate ready to wrestle it from her as the new people’s princess? Will she overthrow Cheryl off the newspaper front pages as the country’s new tabloid darling?
