My, my, 24-year-old singer Florence Welch doesn’t half have some amazing dresses! From Chanel and Gucci to Valentino and Givenchy, her wardrobe is chock-a-block with incredible gowns with one essential thing in common – that they channel her charismatic personality.
Often opting for retro, ’70s-inspired ensembles, she favours maxi dresses, palazzo pants and long sleeves, and is rarely seen in raised hemlines. Sometimes she pulls out all the stops and goes for really bold vintage looks, in flowing capes, tasselled skirts and bell sleeves – carrying it all off with undeniable aplomb.
Sumptuous, luxe fabrics are a must – think delicate lace, lush velvet, silk chiffon and crepe de chine. Rarely seen in colour pop hues, Florence knows what suits her pre-Raphaelite pale complexion and flame-hued locks, and is always seen in muted, pastel shades, jewel-like shades or dark gothic looks.
But don’t be fooled into thinking our Florence is a frump – her undeniable sex appeal shines through in old Hollywood-style touches, like feathers and nude lace, as well as modern twists like sheer panelling. We have a serious case of wardrobe envy.
Picture: Florence loves a bit of vintage-inspired clobber, and though the spring/summer 2011 Gucci dress she wore to their pre-Grammy breakfast certainly isn’t from a charity shop, it’s definitely got that retro vibe she wears so well. This swan dress from Givenchy couture ensured Florence wowed at the Grammys. Showing just a peek of skin, we love the sheer panels of the skirt with appliquéwing detail, as well as the ‘70s-inspired bell-sleeves and orange detail on the back. Simply stunning.
