Marlene Dietrich
Marlene Dietrich is known for her unconventional style and for constantly reinventing herself. Finding international fame as Lola-Lola in The Blue Angel in 1930, she was a regular on the Berlin film scene throughout the 1920s. Deserting her home country in 1937 after the rise of the Nazi party, to become an American citizen, she became a high profile frontline performer, entertaining the allied troops. Known for her exotic looks and glamorous wardrobe, alternatively covering herself in furs or rocking masculine tuxedos, she has been named one of the greatest female stars of all time.
Picture: Marlene has become famous for her decision to wear masculine tailoring in the 1920s, often incorporating her suits and tuxedos into the wardrobes of her characters, giving her an androgynous look. Far from the norm, Marlenes decision to wear mens clothing would have been deemed shocking at the time, while now she inspires a glam, dressed-up look with celebrities like Dita von Teese mimicking her top hat and tails style.
