Natural beauty

Starlets will come and go but there will always be Diane Keaton. Woody Allen's muse long before Scar-Jo came on the scene, her luminous, natural beauty lit up the screen in his greatest films, Annie Hall and Manhattan. Killer cheekbones and radiant smile aside, Diane is famous for her distinctive androgynous style which set her apart from other actresses. She’s not afraid to forgo fancy frocks on the red carpet, instead favouring tailored tuxedos and kooky bowler hats – and always pulling it off thanks to her innate charm and beauty. She is a real inspiration.

Here in 1976 she shows off the signature look that also defined that of her character, Annie Hall, in Woody Allen’s Oscar-winning 1977 film. Diane wore her own clothes – mannish blazers, ties, baggy trousers and shirts – in the film, to the horror of the wardrobe mistress, but Allen backed his leading lady and Annie/Diane’s style went on to influence the fashion of the late ‘70s. Diane also scooped a Best Actress Oscar for her performance.
