Savage Beauty

Following last week’s royal wedding where the new Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, wore a Sarah Burton-designed Alexander McQueen dress, the British label was the fashion brand on everyone’s lips once more at last night’s Costume Institute Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. On a par with the Oscars for red carpet glamour (although in our opinion this year’s event was far more exciting than the 2011 Academy Awards), the most stylish celebrities and designers came out in force for the fashion industry’s biggest night of the year.

Last night’s glitzy Met Ball was, of course, in celebration of the opening of the museum’s new costume exhibition Savage Beauty, dedicated to the work of the late Alexander McQueen. Many paid tribute to the designer by wearing his creations on the red carpet, including Chloë Sevigny, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Dello Russo, Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, and his successor Sarah Burton. Hollywood actresses, global pop superstars, models and elite members of the fashion set were all in attendance, in an array of fashion fabulous frocks. Read on to see all the highlights from last night’s Met Ball...
