Marion Cotillard has come a long way in three years. Although a famous and successful film actress in her native France since the mid-‘90s and a supporting role in Tim Burton\'s Big Fish, it wasn\'t until her dazzling performance as Édith Piaf in the 2007 biopic La Vie en Rose that she was thrust into the mainstream. Her impressive turn as the French singing legend scooped her a clutch of prestigious awards, including a Golden Globe, Bafta and, on a fairytale night in Hollywood, the Oscar for Best Actress - even making film history by becoming the first person to win an Academy Award for a French language role.
Since her dream-come-true Oscar win she has appeared alongside Hollywood heavyweights Johnny Depp and Christian Bale (in Public Enemies), Daniel Day-Lewis, Penélope Cruz and Judi Dench (in Nine), and Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Caine (in Christopher Nolan\'s eagerly anticipated sci-fi thriller Inception out Friday 16 July), which will truly cement her A-list status.
Within a few months of her Oscar win, John Galliano made her the new face and muse of Christian Dior - and she has rarely been snapped wearing anything else since. As well as appearing in the Lady Dior advertising campaigns and short films (one directed by the pioneering David Lynch), Cotillard has made a Dior dress her signature red carpet look.
