Angelina Jolie has been jetting around the world in recent weeks in a publicity push for her new film, the high-octane thriller Salt (which hits cinema screens on 18 August), where she plays Evelyn Salt who is accused of being a Russian spy. However, she\'s also been hitting the headlines thanks to something far more scandalous: a new unauthorised biography charting her life. The juicy book (due out in the US this week) is penned by Andrew Morton, who has also published books about Tom Cruise, the Beckhams and, most famously, Princess Diana, and it\'s reported to include details of alleged flings with actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Colin Farrell and Ethan Hawke, as well as a fondness for S&M parties and visits to psychiatric hospitals.
With those days behind her, the former wild child and heroin addict, who flirted with lesbianism and self-harm in the past, has blossomed into one of Hollywood\'s highest paid and most powerful actresses - an Oscar winner no less, for her 1999 supporting role in Girl, Interrupted. She\'s famed for her exotic and almost cartoonish beauty - all fluttering cat-like eyes, chiselled cheekbones and pillow lips - her position as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN and for being one half of America\'s most beautiful couple alongside Brad Pitt and their adorable brood of children.
And she\'s made quite a style transformation too. Gone are the scary gothic dresses and Morticia Addams hair extensions (that she wore to collect her Oscar), and tasteless white suits with matching cowboy boots, replaced by a wardrobe of glossy showstopping gowns (for the red carpet) and understatedly chic pencil skirts and tops (off-duty). However, reminders of her rebel past do remain with a plethora of tattoos and a penchant for vampish black leather.
