Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring/Summer 2012

Vivienne Westwood Spring summer 2012

The fashion pack crowded into Smithfield Market for the Vivienne Westwood show, which this time around focused on the classic suit. This being Westwood however, this was not your run-of-the-mill tailoring – she played with proportions to give jackets new dimensions and twisted white shirts into something entirely unrecognisable. Classic suiting fabrics were re-worked into signature draped dresses while the humble cardigan was elongated and belted to create a sweet little dress. While the hair was enormous and birds-nesty, accessories were kept to a minimum, with just one Ebury bag appearance (in hot pink tartan) and minimalist, sporty shoes. There were a generous handful of the looks you can always expect from Red Label; scrunched taffeta skirts, loosely-tied jersey dresses and layered, deconstructed ballgowns. Splotchy watercolour prints added to the palette of steel grey, cornflower blue, caramel and golden stone. Flashes of scarlet and gold for the closing looks added a touch of classic Westwood drama.
