With every passing season Victoria Beckham is becoming more assured as a designer and her S/S12 collection marks another stride forward for the former pop star. Naysayers might still whisper that she doesnt really design the clothes, but in fairness she has never claimed to be a trained seamstress, instead working with a team to translate her vision each season.
Victoria is known for her form-fitting ladylike dresses which are red carpet favourites with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Heidi Klum and these were present and correct, but she also introduced sportier pieces and a more relaxed trapeze shape.
The exposed zips which have become a feature of previous Victoria Beckham collections were also out in force, as were peaked caps, her first ever flat sandals (gasp!) and some 'challenging' leather leggings. The colour palette featured a zingy combination of fluoro orange and navy, as well as softer metallic blush pinks and silvery blues. Sheer mesh panels connected sporty vests and thigh-skimming skirts (Victoria is never afraid of a mini) and we loved the huge, boxy bags held close to the body. Cut-outs on tops and dresses revealed shoulders our new favourite erogenous zone. Overall the collections relaxed, fresh feel reflected Victorias growing confidence as a designer with something to say.
