First it was Ricardo Tisci, then Marc Jacobs, and now it seems Raf Simons is the latest favourite to replace John Galliano at Dior. The design house has been without a creative director since Galliano was sacked amidst allegations of racism and anti-Semitism earlier this year, with the Spring/Summer 2012 collection shown in September without a head designer in place.
While talks between wunderkind Marc Jacobs and the design house have now stalled, it seems that the Jil Sanders creative director Raf Simons is the latest to be courted by the brand. If rumours are true, he is currently in negotiations with Dior to settle a contract for the New Year.
The 43-year-old designer is famed for reinventing minimalist brand of the 90s Jil Sander into one of the most exciting brands of Milan fashion week, with their Spring/Summer 2011 collection being the standout collection of the season, with its fluro-coloured maxi skirts teamed with plain white t-shirts. He certainly would bring something different to Dior, which is known for its extravagance and showmanship under Galliano.
As the saga continues, we wonder, will Dior ever find someone to replace John Galliano?
