Pringle catwalk
A fantastic collection from Scotish heritage cashmere brand Pringle showed that this brand is on track and doing exactly what it should be - innovative and interesting knitwear that provides a foundation for a chic and modern collection. Coats and skirt suits looked sporty and chic and ruffled soft skirts looked modern worn with chunky grey cable knit sweaters...

Burberry Prorsum catwalk
At Burberry Prorsum the softness of previous collections had all but disappeared to make way for a tough and sexy leather clad woman. Hard edges, tough fabrics, chunky knits, padding and quilting all had an armour like feel. Coats were belted with hard patent wide belts and featured brass buttons. Glossy thick leather gauntlet gloves and thigh high patent boots added to the medieval warrior theme...

Bottega Veneta catwalk
Chic tailored suits with a forties waisted silhouette, simple wool dresses and striking column dresses for evening, all looked grown up but contempoary at Bottega Veneta. This brand\'s currency is luxury, and this was apparant in the simplicity of design and sophistication of cut. Accessories for which Bottega Veneta were first known, came this season in lizard - from beautiful sandals to hard clutches and their signature woven leather tote bag

Miuccia Prada\'s vision is always wholly original but often feels a little uneasy at its first outing and this season was no different. Manish coats and block colour socks with patent cone heeled shoes looked simple and modern and school style skirts and cardigans had echo\'s of past geek chic theme\'s. Fabrics were unusual...

In Miuccia\'s own words there was "something simple but strange" about the ambitious and abstracted ideas here. But the mix of organic texture (furry shaggy knits, raw edges, earthy colours) with a high tech finish (rubberised or plastic coated) worked and looked new. It was however, difficult to imagine what kind of woman might want to buy the \'strange\' furry knit, thrift store style coats and \'simple\' (read frumpy) straight skirts and tops

Alberta Feretti catwalk
Straight cut trousers and neat, chic pea coats in black and navy gave a minimal start to Alberta Feretti\'s winter collection. Beautiful simple cape like coats, sporty webbing belts and glossy black studded leather, showed Feretti is hitting all the right notes this season and following Milan\'s big themes...

Roberto Cavalli catwalk
There was an unusually elegant feel to Roberto Cavalli\'s winter collection that, like so many others this season took on a \'40s slant that was obviously underlined by the set hair and red lips.Slim safari jackets in cream or olive and matching straight leg pants, nippy leather bombers, satin smoking suits and structured \'40s fitted dresses all preceeded his finale dresses which came this season in godess green, nude chiffon and ice blue

Consuelo Castiglioni is undoubtedly one of Milan\'s greatest designers. Her beautiful and unique style pervades every collection even when she\'s pushing a new theme, it\'s a continuation from the previous season and always exactly right for the Marni catwalk. Last summer she layered sporty leggings under her signature block colour outfits of loose fit tunics and edge to edge coats...

Gucci catwalk
There is little more that any woman could wish for next season than what appeared on the Gucci autumn catwalk. Milan\'s big story: the \'40s, was huge here, starting as an aviator theme and finishing with floor sweeping, backless silk gowns. Beautifully soft, ostritch leather flying jackets with soft fur collars rode on the hip of cropped, tweed, plus-fours...

Belstaff catwalk
A strong \'80s theme emerged at Belstaff in the broad shouldered silhouette and monochrome palette of grey, black, red and white. Signature leather jackets were either skin tight and sexy or sporty and wide, teamed with short mini, pencil skirts or rubber leggings and platform soled boots

Pucci
At Pucci colour combinations like tangerine, purple, red and pink were used on block colour and patchwork panelled dresses. Classic \'70s Pucci prints, re worked for autumn in the same palette, were a vulgar take on psychadelia. The \'70s theme continued into suede wedges, chunky jewelery and huge mongolian, fluffy furry coats which all looked out of step with the season\'s big themes so far...

Fendi
At fur-tastic Fendi coats were the focus. Sticking to the season\'s big stories, they came with rounded shoulders, shorter voluminous sleeves, belted at the waist and in black and white or patchwork. (Patchwork has been a key theme in Milan) Short padded, leather bomber jackets were also bang on trend and high shine, glossy tough leathers ticked yet another autumn \'07 box...
