Michael van der Ham is known for his ability to college fabrics into the clothes of fashion fantasy, and this elegant S/S 12 collection was no exception. The heavy velvets and crystals of seasons past had been replaced by light printed silks for an altogether ladylike feel. Vibrant shades of aqua, turquoise, peach and hot pink were combined with white and a monochrome graphic line print, while coral textured silk satin had flecks of gold lustre used in dress panels and slim, two-tone trousers, which are a step away from van der Hams signature dresses. Separates took centre stage, in fact, as neatly tailored boucle tweed jackets in brightest white were balanced with silk blouses, complete with sweetheart sash detailing and scarf edging. This was a collection for the dynamic woman about town, stylish and colourful with a level of reserve. The proper short sleeves, sash draping and softly exaggerated capelet backs on blouses gave the whole collection an intensely feminine slant, while still being fashion-forward enough to enlist a whole new set of Michael van der Ham fans!
