Theres something very likeable about the Margaret Howell girl she looks cool, calm and capable, elegant but with a restrained, tomboyish edge and we want to be her. Margaret Howells Spring/Summer 2012 show contained many clothes which we would quite happily have snatched straight off the catwalk and run away with.
Yellow cagoules (which we also saw at Mulberry - LFW micro-trend !) covered light summer frocks, there were crisply buttoned white shirts tucked into high-waisted skirts and sailor trousers and deliciously cool, loose washed cotton smock dresses.
This was the Famous Five girl all grown up, wearing sensible, practical (yet still sexy) cotton skirts, sandals (with socks) and full-skirted shirt dresses. The palette was simple and clean red, white and blue with a touch of black or grey. Crisp polka dots appeared on shirts and dresses, and there was a beautifully washed, striped tunic. A relaxed folky soundtrack suited the clothes perfectly grown-up, intelligent and the perfect calm antidote to the frenzy of modern life.
