Marc by Marc Jacobs is known as the fun, friendly younger sister to the Marc Jacobs mainline, and this S/S 12 collection from the fashion king of NYC was no exception to that rule. This was a collection that was all about right now with none of the usual Marc by Marc trademark vintage references. Sporty, minimal shapes set the tone, while bright shades of carrot, tangerine and tomato-orange livened up proceedings. Marc focussed on androgynous, preppy tailoring, with colourful suits for the boys and straight skirts teamed with boxy shift tops for the girls. Softer styles came in the form of loosely-scrunched silk on dresses and graphic flounces on longer-length smart tees.
Print wise, Marc by Marc tapped into the continuing trend for complimentary colour-stripes (which for the beady of eye, cheekily featured some parrots perched on one of the horizontal bands) Tropical birds were also the inspiration behind a motif dotted across classic v-neck, A-line dresses and swimsuits. This collection seems to show a new direction for the Marc by Marc Jacobs line its more wearable than ever, with a newly intense focus on colour.
