Julian Macdonald catwalk
There are 4 key ingredients in a Julian Macdonald show (show being the operative word); a bumfight on the door; a handful of celebs on the front row; a few fur protestors; and a multidude of short sparkly, red carpet ready frocks. This year the protestors stayed away - largely due to a secret location but possibly because they couldn\'t be bothered with the rain - leaving Macdonald to put on a great show...and the clothes weren\'t bad either

Julian Macdonald catwalk
Luxe black silky puffa coats and short satin puffball skirts were all styled with sporty mesh bodies and leather gloves. Pussy bow neck blouses and skinny black pants with white fur coats added Parisian flavour and the finale signature sparkly dress was modelled by Naomi Campbell. Later Macdonald hinted at a move to New york or Milan, and who can blame him. But as one of the UK\'s only remaining \'big names\' this would spell disastor for the LFW schedule
Autumn Winter 2007-08,fashion week,catwalk,marios schwab
Marios Schwab catwalk
Marios Schwab is one of the group of young London designers responsible for starting the early \'90s body con revival. This year he worked all his usual themes, metal plate embellishments and sheath second skin dresses, adding a few new ideas for autumn as padded, puffa dresses and coats and panelled fleece dresses that gave the collection a sporty dimension
Autumn Winter 2007-08,fashion week,catwalk,christopher kane
Christopher Kane catwalk
At his first and graduation show, Christopher Kane was one to watch. By his second show and debut at London Fashion Week, he had established himself as London\'s newest and most promising talent. Now showing his third collection this week, Kane has done it again. Silencing any critics who may have doubted this young star from Scotland\'s talent and producing, with his sister and partner Tammy, a beautiful and unbelievably acomplished collection for winter 2007

Christopher Kane catwalk
Velvet and leather may not sound like a winning combination but Kane panneled them into beautiful short dresses that continued his spring silhouette. Giant rock crystals came on shoulder straps giving an armour like feel, as buttons on a cardigan dress and as a centre setting on belts, like wedding bands for the waist: these will fly off the shelves in stores like Browns. Second skin leggings came in velvet or spandex with cropped neat leather jackets

Versace references and elements of goth, sci-fi and fetish were all worked beautifully into the plot. Finally all over crystal dresses received instant applause from the crowd. Sarah Mower of Style.com commented: "if it had been shown in Paris, the collection would still have shone". A move across the channel may be inevitable in the future, but we\'re keeping our fingers crossed that we\'ll have the pleasure of Kane\'s collection in London for a few more seasons yet
Autumn Winter 2007-08,fashion week,catwalk,gharani strok
Gharani Strok catwalk
A simple and easy to digest \'60s silhouette was the focus at Gharani Strok. Mini length coats, play suits and variations on Mary Quant style dresses all came in panelled block colour that was predominantly and predictably monochrome
Autumn Winter 2007-08,fashion week,catwalk,sinah stanic
Sinah Stanic catwalk
At Sinah Stanic a purist and modern aesthetic that results in this labels mini, panelled bandage dresses, skinny cropped trousers and rounded raglan, cocoon coats, felt repetitive after a while. Gold and black metallic woven fabrics, shantung silk and nehru collars added an eastern angle, splicing minimal and sci-fi with the orient. Simple shift dresses looked stunning when covered in rhinestone and crystal
Autumn Winter 2007-08,Paul Smith,fashion week,catwalk
Paul Smith catwalk
For autumn Paul Smith worked a \'30s theme into his collection, spinning flapper dresses, long line cardigans and cropped checked wool pants in Smith\'s unmistakable english eccentric style. Three piece suits came in green harris tweed and cardi\'s and coats had a dressing gown come smoking jacket style. Day dresses were updated with \'shroom\' sleeves, knitwear moved forward with metallic yarn and a couple of coats were made up in acid bright colours

John Rocha catwalk
At John Rocha romantic layers and ruffles always feature, and for winter 2007 they came in black silk, taffetta and wool, adding Rocha\'s poetic signature to skirts, tailored top coats and dresses. Voluminous, cropped shroom sleeves were new this season and beautiful wool coats and wide trousers were all anchored with traditional men\'s leather belts

House of Holland
Just how many variations on the rhyming slogan T - shirt can Henry Holland come up with? A lot it seems. Although we do love: "flick yer bean for Agynes Dean", Henry please, you\'ve pushed this one to the limit - we\'re begging you - enough already

Richard Nicoll catwalk
Striped shirts have become Nicholl\'s signature and have in the past been spotted on celebrities like Kylie Minogue. For autumn 2007 Nichol cited american cheerleaders (amongst other things) as inspiration for his current experiments with shirts. Star motifs, frilled pleated peplums and giant rhinestone buttons (that have been spotted on a few catwalks this week) were a new and winning take

Topshop catwalk
At Topshop\'s unique show a sombre palette that was all but banished for spring\'07, returned for Autumn as grey, olive and beige, punctuated with richer navy and claret and finished with a flash of silver. A retro \'70s silhouette emerged in the high waisted wide leg pants with chic chiffon blouses tucked in and grown up tuxedo jackets with wide palazzo pants...

Topshop catwalk
Bulky knits that were big last winter came this time as cardigan coats, cinched at the waist with huge disc buckled belts that gave a nod to the sci- fi trend. This was Topshop\'s first Unique collection since the departure of brand director Jane Shepherdon, thankfully it seemed not to have lost any of its direction and high fashion focus - although it was unusually grown up and sophisticated cosidering the average age of a typical Topshop girl must be around 20

Noir catwalk
At ethical Danish brand Noir, mens white bib fronted dinner shirts were styled with with satin bow ties and lace trimmed slips. It was an obvious and rather tasteless way to spin the masculine/ feminine dynamic, and the pearls, diamante and leather look trousers also thrown in didn\'t help matters
Autumn Winter 2007-08,fashion week,catwalk,peter jenson
Peter Jenson catwalk
Peter Jenson had used a painting of a Danish princess from a Holbein exhibition at the Tate as a starting point for his inspiration for his show. Long voluminous gowns came in black nylon and were layered with knits and high necked blouses came buttoned up and printed but thankfully, historical references were subtle and didn\'t overwhelm a collection that was, when disected full of great things to wear

Noir catwalk
There were some simpler pieces that worked alone, like the nude chiffon blouses and slouchy wide leg pants, but on the whole even a finale appearance from supermodels Erin O Conor and Lily Cole couldn\'t save this collection from looking a little tragic

Jonathan Saunders catwalk
At Jonathan Saunders long willowy column dresses and modern, innovative prints are always expected. This season Saunders had used the ideas of parallel and horizontal lines, panels of different weight fabrics and the use of block colour and print to produce what was an incredible collection and possibly his best to date

Basso and Brooke catwalk
At Basso and Brooke contemporary prints looked digitally inspired when seen close up yet from afar appeared beautifully organinc, like moody painted skies. The emphasis was on coats (simple and single breasted or giant satin padded cocoons) and great dresses from sweet and simple satin shifts, to mini chiffon puffballs or floor length meringue like vinyl gowns

Preen catwalk
The obsession with the late \'80s and early \'90s that began on London\'s catwalks sees no sign of subsiding this season. At Preen direct references were made to \'80s designers like Mugler and Montana in the cowl neck hoods, coloured tights and boots and horizontal seams and pleats on dresses

Aquascutum catwalk
A beautiful and simple collection that mixed military themes with volume and classic cuts, showed a real progression for this British heritage brand. Water proof capes in mustard or ecru looked chic and so appealing after the rain we\'ve had this week. Coats came with brass buttons, frogging and fringing that could have easily looked crude but looked so right. The military theme continued onto sexy hourglass dresses as medals on straps...

Who\'d have ever thought amongst Gareth Pugh\'s fantastical and theatrical designs we\'d one day find something wearable? But during Thurday\'s unveiling of his autumn collection, between horizontal striped vinyl concoctions, latex masks and body suits- lean trousers and black wrap coats(some in fur)appeared. Perhaps now Pugh will be selling to customers other than the wild and wonderful club kids and drag queens that always make it to his front row
