With glamorous and influential fans like Kate Middleton , Jaeger is consolidating its position as a label that effortlessly straddles both high fashion and the smarter end of the high street. The Jaeger London Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk show at London Fashion Week showed how far the brand has come in its reinvention, with both New York socialite Olivia Palermo and British pop starlet Pixie Lott getting the photographers into a frenzy in the front row.
The most striking thing about the outfits as they came down the catwalk was the magnificent hats which topped off each one broad-brimmed straw boaters that looked like something a gaucho in Argentina would wear, but in a fresh palette of apple green, peacock blue, plum and sand. They added a slightly masculine edge to clothes which would have been purely feminine otherwise little jackets with scalloped detailing, lacy frocks, skirt suits and our absolute favourite, calf-sweeping culottes.
The sugary pastel shades we saw in New York reappeared here in a lemon yellow suit, a peach skirt and a mint green pinafore which was a highlight of the collection, with its crisp pleats and retro patch pockets. A zingy stripe brought all the colours together with a balancing shot of black and appeared crisp and clean on skirts, tops, shorts and jackets. A simple white smock with broiderie anglais detailing was just the thing for cocktails on the beach, while there were plenty of dresses that would be perfect for summer weddings.
Towards the end things took a more whimsical turn, with a delicate ditsy print appearing on floaty chiffon skirts, blouses and dresses. A dark, daringly sheer skirt with oversized broiderie anglais detailing was a reminder that this heritage brand can be as coquettish as you like its all in the way you wear it. We cant wait to see which pieces from the Jaeger London collection the Middleton sisters wear first...
