The Holly Fulton girl found herself getting a little bit hot under the collar this season, with D.H. Lawrence’s raunchy novel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, providing the inspiration for her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The unbridled passion of the novels chief characters – Lady Chatterley and the groundskeeper Mellors – was explored through green house structures, hot house plants and critters, as well as a vivid passionate shade of pink.
The first look – an oversized fuchsia blazer worn with nothing but some killer heels and a graphic necklace – set the mood for the rest of the show. A series of hot pink looks followed on from this stellar opener, with flames of the hue creeping up the back of a black strapless dress or popping up in uneven stripes on a funnel neck cropped blazer.
Holly’s quintessential art nouveau dresses were fringed this season, with the tassels continuing the glass house prints, with PVC or Perspex buildings trailing from hemlines, or flaps cut into the fabric to give it a kilt-like pleat. Butterfly appliqués could be found on the spines of polo neck tops, or making up the halterneck of a dress, hinting at the unbridled lust boiling beneath the surface. Elsewhere, palm leaf prints were layered on top of each other in blue, turquoise and green.
Accessories-wise, jewellery was still graphic in design, with statement collar necklaces and chandelier drop earrings featuring art deco buildings, while bags were simple leather clutches or oversized and made from fur – often in Barbie pink or teal, to match their outfits.
