Frida Giannini gave us arguably the collection of the season for Autumn/Winter 2011 no pressure then for her to deliver an equally stellar collection this time round for Spring/Summer 2012. While the '70s were her decade last season, this time the '20s took over, with drop-waisted skirts, fringed and sequined cocktail dresses and Art Deco printed jackets taking centre stage.
Python bags were ever-present from last season, as was that gorgeous shade of jade green and glitzy touches of gold and sequins this is Gucci, after all. New for this season though was the focus on monochrome black and white, and the equestrian touches in side-panelled trousers and horse prints. Animal prints morphed from zebra to giraffe to leopard and back again, and a cheeky rope print cropped up again and again. Gucci's swimwear was typically glam with extreme cut-out detail and a sheer fringed cover-up trailing on the floor. With a new series of Boardwalk Empire returning to our screens this month, and the release of Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby, it seems next year is going to be all about the roaring '20s.
