Karl Lagerfeld is best-known for his work for Chanel, but let us not forget that he is also the creative brains behind Fendi. His Kaiser Karl touch can be seen in the immaculate styling of his shows; they always resolutely carry a theme from the opening look to the finale. This season, he gave us the chic, beehived 60s housewife with gold heels and striped shoes, of course.
The models wore an abundance of frocks; peter pan collared dresses, sailor dresses, shirt dresses. But they also favoured kimono style shirts with knee-length wrap-over skirts and wide-leg trousers with sleeveless cable-knit jumpers, as well as pleat front skirts and the ubiquitous 60s skirt suit.
From the catwalk to the clothing, stripes were the only print for the Fendi girl to be seen in this S/S 12. The collection featured blue and white pin-striped shirts and red and white candy-striped dresses as well as brown and white wide-striped trousers. The only other print on offer was a cutesy flower and circle design emblazoned on top of pin stripes!
Fur and feather details could be seen here and there, but this was largely a collection of red, blue and white stripes that managed to steer clear of any nautical associations.
