The look at Dolce & Gabbana was a wealthy student, transported from the Seventies by way of Paris and the American Mid-West. High-waisted, belted trousers, plaid shirts with T-shirts featuring Ziggy Stardust peeping out from underneath, and full day skirts worn with stripey polo necks and baker boy caps were accessorized with clompy heels and knee-high boots. The effect was cool, rather than exhausting, however; the handbags, especially, caught the  eye, and will no doubt fly off the shelves next August.
