Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said farewell to their 26-year-old diffusion line D&G yesterday, with a spectacular closing show at Milan Fashion Week. Moments after the show had finished the attendees received an email telling them that S/S 12 was to be D&Gs last collection, as the designers wish to focus all their energies on their main line, Dolce and Gabbana.
The younger sister to the Dolce and Gabbana main line, D&G has long been a firm favourite amongst the wealthy youth (think heiresses and movie starlets) for its upbeat, fun collections. But dont shed any tears too soon the designers have insisted that this decision isnt a sad one. The brand will become a part of Dolce and Gabbana, and will live on in their main line collections, lending them some of the diffusion lines buoyant energy and fun.
Far from being a swansong finale, D&G went out on a high note, with the same upbeat attitude it is known for.
