Every Paris Fashion Week, the fashion world waits in anticipation to see what spectacular stunt Karl Lagerfeld is going to pull this time to display his latest collection for Chanel. In previous years weve had Lily Allen singing while models frolicked in hay bales, a giant melting iceberg and a volcanic landscape so nothing apparently is out of bounds. And for Spring/Summer 2012 Mr Lagerfeld surprised us again by setting the scene in an underwater wonderland, complete with a show stopping performance from Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, who stood in a seashell like some sort of punk rock Boticellis Venus.
And it being Chanel, of course Karl could call on the services of the worlds biggest models, including the gorgeous Miranda Kerr, who proved she has successfully made the transition from Victorias Secret Angel to high fashion as she stalked down the catwalk in a fresh take on the traditional Chanel boucle tweed top. Chanels house flower, the camellia, was fastened at the waist with a slender belt of pearls and the look was completed with a neat pencil skirt with a ribbon print rippling down it and chic little silver boots.
That silver-blue ribbon danced across pure white dresses which were the epitome of prettiness, as were the full, puffed sleeves and full skirts on other frocks in an aquatic palette of sea green, pale blue and pearly white. From the sexy snow-white swimwear to the opulent evening gowns, the overall feel of the collection was romantic, feminine and whimsical and on closer inspection there were also some gorgeous accessories which are sure to become cult classics of the future.
