Osman Yousefzadas romantic Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk show was one of the highlights of London Fashion Week, thanks to his confident play with contrasting colours, textures and proportion. The show opened with a sherbet yellow flapper dress whose sugary sweetness was tempered by a boldly graphic print on the bodice. Candy pink dresses came with knife-edge pleats or structured in stiff organza with a giant face-framing origami bow at the neck. The pastel shades were interrupted by white and monochrome looks and in between the goddess gowns and pretty frocks we also had slim bootcut trousers that unzipped sleekly at the front of the foot.
An all-red section in the middle of the show featured dresses with contrasting sections of leather, suede and silk and intriguing drawstring detailing. Some looks were topped off with feathered headpieces that felt quite Swallows and Amazons and the adventurous theme was continued in the sandals which had raffia wrapping around the ankles. Our favourite look was a neon yellow brocade dress with a stiff ruffle and pockets (we love pockets!)
The theme of the show seemed to boil down to sugar and spice and all things nice Osman managed to perfectly balance the prettiness of his red carpet-worthy gowns with edgy detailing, hair and make-up giving them a wide appeal to many different types of woman.
