Topshop plays dress up
The high street store launches celebrity dress hire project just in time for Christmas.
Ever lusted after one of Kate Moss or Scarlett Johansson's dresses and just wished it could take pride of place in your wardrobe? Thanks to Topshop your dream could come true. From today, visitors to Topshop's Oxford Circus flagship store in London will be able to try on one-of-a-kind dresses donated by a number of the brand's A-list celebrity friends, which can be hired for just £40 for Christmas parties.
Supermodel Kate Moss has parted with a beaded Lanvin party dress, actress Scarlett Johansson has offered an animal print dress by Nanette Lepore and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto has donated a pale yellow Burberry Prorsum dress, which she wore to the label's spring/summer 2010 catwalk show during London Fashion Week in September. Other items up for grabs include a full length floral gown by Dolce & Gabbana from Peaches Geldof, a midnight blue evening dress by Australian designer Jayson Brunsdon from burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese and a bespoke stage costume that Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts wore on the band's recent tour. Naomi Campbell, Little Boots, Alison Goldfrapp, Olivia Palermo and Jourdan Dunn have all donated dresses too, as well as designers Christopher Kane, Emma Cook, Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders, who have all given pieces from their own labels.
Shoppers will be able to browse the rails of garments and try pieces on for size from today until 6 December in the store's custom built shop, with the period for dress hire running from 7 to 23 December. All pieces will be available for hire for two nights for £40 with the opportunity for shoppers to enter a silent auction bid and have the dress for keeps when they go up for sale. What's more, all proceeds from the hire fees and auction go to charities Age Concern and Help The Aged.
