Handbag of the week: Salvatore Ferragamo
By Jemma Tibbals
Feather bag (also available in orange and black), £550 at Salvatore Ferragamo
It's not often the modern day bag lady can feel like a handbag will lighten her load, but we may just have found the one to do just that.
This feathery accessory from Salvatore Ferragamo doesn't just offer the literal bonus of being light as a feather (the perfect starting point for any evening bag) but I propose that this whimsical and fun, fluffy delight will literally lift your spirits. For starters, is it just me or does it remind anyone else of the mischievous mop from Walt Disney's 1940 classic Fantasia? No? OK!
What is clear is the number of designers getting in a flap over feathers for autumn winter '07. Floaty and light at Nina Ricci, brazen peacock quills at Sportmax and the sporadic plucked chicken look on Alberta Ferretti designs all reinforced the birdie theme. Prada's magpie-looking coats were the most abstract plumes seen on the catwalk. And like the bird itself, we can't help feeling drawn to all things treasuresome, so we adore this fancy little purse bag from Salvatore Ferragamo.
