Handbag of the week: Marni
By Jemma Tibbals
Limited edition balloon bag, £420 at Marni
Latex can conjure some rather unappealing visions: unflattering waterproofs or worse still, over-exposed body parts coated in latex-laiden outfits. Either way, not sexy. But that was until Les Chiffoniers brought us the latex-look-legging - similar versions were also seen at Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen and Belstaff. Kate Moss took her PVC-clad pins to Glastonbury - wipe clean trousers at the world's most notoriously muddy festival, genius and not to mention very, very sexy - while Juliette Lewis, frontwoman of the band Juliette And The Licks, adds to latex's rock 'n' roll calibre by wearing a shiny silver pair on stage. Latex has become c'est chic.

And now the innovative Italian designers at Marni are channelling the seductive latex look with their limited edition balloon bag for fall/winter 2007. The signature bag's new look may not appeal to the shrinking violets among you - as we have seen from the leggings, latex demands a forthright personality - however an accessory is always the best way for a wallflower to try a trend.
Definitely a bag worthy of over exposure.
