Handbag of the week: Katharine E Hamnett
By Jemma Tibbals
Pyramid bag, £462 by Katharine E Hamnett in collaboration with Jas MB
Katharine Hamnett with Margaret ThatcherKatharine Hamnett, her of political slogan t-shirt fame, is back on the frontline of ethical fashion thanks to the re-launch of her women's and menswear ranges.
Hamnett first put political messages on to t-shirts in the 1980s but she is insistent that these messages are still relevant today, whether it be ‘CHOOSE LIFE', ‘SAVE THE WORLD' or simply ‘LOVE'. She has always attracted a star-spangled fan base, but her latest supporters include Alexa Chung, Peaches Geldof and Lily Cole. Model and dj, Kesh, is the latest face of the campaign. Like Boy George before her she is an experimental artist and a keen supporter of the Katharine Hamnett message.
Now, not all of us want to be so visually emblazoned with our support for all things ethical and if this is the case Katharine Hamnett's collaboration with London-based bag and accessory label Doors Jas MB is ideal. The 100% organic leather bag is vegetable dyed with an organic cotton interior. To read more about Katharine Hamnett and her fashion manifesto visit www.katharinehamnett.com.
