Obama wins at CFDA Fashion Awards
Rodarte and Michelle Obama were among last night’s big winners at America’s prestigious CFDA Fashion Awards .
New York's most glamorous flocked to the Lincoln Center in New York last night for the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards. Blake Lively, Ashley Olsen and Agyness Deyn were among those upping the star wattage, along with Dree Hemingway, Diane Kruger and Claire Danes, who all acted as dates (and models) to different designers.
The winners included Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte who took home the Womenswear Designer of the Year prize, Proenza Schouler who won Accessory Designer of the Year award and Michelle Obama who, while not present, was honoured with the Board of Directors' Special Tribute Award by CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg for her support and commitment to American designers.
In a taped message, the First Lady said, "The ingenuity and craftsmanship of American designers contributes so much to our economy and to our culture. To both legends and the future legends, I am honoured to celebrate your craft with you tonight. And on behalf of men and women everywhere, I want to thank you all for making fashion liberating, inspiring, but of all, fun."
