We test-drive an afternoon of tea, cake and skyscrapers in Central London…

Review: Afternoon tea and The View from The Shard
We're big fans of Afternoon Tea at Handbag HQ, especially when it's thrown in with a trip up The Shard.

Since opening on 1 February, The Shard is the latest in a long list of must-see London sights. So we had to check it out for ourselves...

After a bit of browsing on Buyagift.co.uk, a gift experience day company, we booked ourselves in for their Afternoon Tea for two package.

You'll start your visit with the tea and cake delights at a nearby restaurant – either the Brigade restaurant or the Hilton's Larder depending on your day and time of booking.

At the Hilton, you'll enjoy a modern tea set with clear teacups and a delicious three-tier cake stand stacked with sandwiches, scones and cakey goodness.

We'd recommend giving yourself a good hour and a half before your Shard visit – heading up 800ft on a non-digested stomach isn't ideal for most.

Not that you'll remember once you reach The Shard's 72nd floor though, as you'll be met by breathtaking views of the city, day and night.
