Our hatred for cake pops goes beyond this - it is all consuming. There is just no need to put cake on a stick. The cake always falls off after one bite, covering you in crumbs and causing an awkward 'oh I just threw cake all over your carpet' situation.
However, we decided to confront our cake enemy, look it in the sweet eye, bite the chocolate bullet and make some. And this is how we did it...
Easy cake pop recipe
Don't muck about - we recommend you buy a mould
- 4oz caster sugar
- 4oz margarine
- 4oz self raising flour
- 3 eggs
- Chocolate for melting and covering
- Sprinkles of choice
Mix all the ingredients together to make a classic cake batter.
Put dollops in the cake pop mould and put the other side on.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/356°F for 20 minutes.
Take the mould out, split it and let the cakes cool in the mould.
Melt a couple of squares of chocolate (in a glass bowl over a saucepan of boiling water).
Take the cake pop sticks and dunk one end in the melted chocolate and stick it halfway into a pop.
Leave the pops in a fridge for about two hours to set.
Melt the rest of the chocolate and individually dunk each cake pop in, cover, and then pop on sprinkles, silver balls, chocolate shavings, nuts, whatever you want.
