Well, it turns out Samantha Jones, Carrie et al were right to have sex on the first date. Or so French GQ columnist Maïa Mazaurette would have us believe.

According to the French sexpert, Brits have it all wrong by not having sex on the first date.

The key to a happy relationship she told New York Magazine, is: "It just seems so strange to put so much pressure on something that seems so spontaneous to me: sex. When I have sex with someone, I'm not sharing real intimacy. I share intimacy when I talk about my childhood; if I'm sick and someone takes care of me."

Before going on to say: "If it's just kissing or spreading my legs, my emotional involvement is almost zero." Er, ok then.

Her theory is basically that if you jump straight into bed and the sex is good, then it's easier to build a relationship on that.

And forget about dinner and cocktails, Mazaurette says 30 minutes is plenty of time before you head to the bedroom. Just long enough to "make sure you don't have a psychopath in front of you."

In further helpful relationship tips, like Cameron Diaz, she recommends having multiple lovers and still using sex toys when in a relationship.

We'll end on this note: "Even if I had Ryan Gosling, I would still masturbate with sex toys." Ryan Gosling. Seriously.
